Started restoring and embellishing the national relic of Dien Khanh Citadel

(Fatherland) - Khanh Hoa broke ground on the project to restore and embellish the national relic Dien Khanh Citadel, expected to be completed after one year.


Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hien - Director of Khanh Hoa Provincial Development Project Management Board - said that the project to restore and embellish the Dien Khanh Citadel relic broke ground on December 27.

This project is invested by Khanh Hoa Provincial Development Project Management Board, the project's objective is to preserve and promote the historical and cultural values of national relics; contributing to serving well the political tasks, economic, cultural and social development of Khanh Hoa province.

The project has 12 items, many of which are restored and preserved in their original state, including: a 2,500 m long earthen rampart, a citadel top more than 4 m wide, a 2.6 m wide brick walkway, etc.

Specifically, the authorities will repair, embellish and restore the earthen rampart (complete the remaining part to create a closed route, including 6 sections in the following directions: northeast, southwest, southeast, northwest, near the south gate, near the north gate); build a brick-paved road outside the protective boundary inside the rampart.

Construct 3 parking lots; construct 2 public toilets (at parks 1 and 3); construct a bridge across the moat at the North gate; construct 5 parks at the corners of the city; construct 1 pumping station.

Renovate and refurbish the East, West and South gates; renovate and build a water supply and drainage system for the citadel and moat, a wastewater collection system; build a lighting system for the area inside the citadel; dredge mud and soil, clean the moat and the roof, waterproof the moat walls and bottom; renovate trees along one side of the protective boundary road inside the citadel.

The cost of the project to restore and embellish the Dien Khanh Citadel relic is more than 166 billion VND, including 70 billion VND for construction costs and more than 67 billion VND for compensation and site clearance support.

To implement this project, the authorities need to clear about 55,000 square meters of ancient citadel land, more than 39,000 square meters of land for organizations and agencies, and more than 100,000 square meters of land currently used by households. Since the beginning of the year, the authorities have announced relevant information for people to grasp.

Dien Khanh Ancient Citadel (Dien Khanh district) was built in 1793, on an area of 3.5 hectares, 2,600 m long, 3.5 m high walls, was the political and administrative center of Khanh Hoa from 1802 to 1945. This work was ranked as a national historical and cultural relic in 1988./.
