Daily Sabah quoted a source from the Turkish Foreign Ministry as saying that on June 20, in Astana (Kazakhstan), diplomats from four countries: Turkey, Iran, Russia and Syria began a new round of negotiations in the Astana Peace Process format, with the aim of continuing to discuss the future of Syria.

Also participating in this round of negotiations were UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Otto Pedersen and a number of observer countries, including Syria's neighboring countries, Iraq, Lebanon and Jordan.
The Astana peace process was launched in 2017 at the initiative of Turkey, Russia and Iran, which is considered a forum to discuss efforts to find a peaceful solution to the long-standing conflict in Syria that has killed hundreds of thousands of civilians, forced millions of Syrians to leave their homes and become refugees, and plunged Syria into crisis due to harsh sanctions from the US and the West.
