The General Department has many units directly managing, repairing weapons, technical equipment, and manufacturing defense products. In each unit, there are many types of labor, high-intensity activities, unfavorable working conditions, high risks of unsafety, especially in the management, storage, and handling of weapons, technical equipment, especially ammunition, and in some industries with heavy, toxic, and dangerous factors such as: Petroleum, military weapons, military medicine, road and waterway vehicles and motorbikes, mechanics, textiles, etc.
Fully aware of that issue, the leaders and commanders of the General Department of Labor Safety and Hygiene regularly lead and direct agencies and units to maintain and strictly implement laws, procedures and regulations on occupational safety and hygiene, fire and explosion prevention and control (PCCN) and occupational disease prevention and control with many appropriate contents and measures. Party committees and commanders at all levels always pay attention to and attach great importance to safety assurance, especially safety of ammunition and petroleum, considering this one of the top tasks and have had many policies and measures to strengthen and ensure the safety of the warehouse system and technical facilities; regularly pay attention to improving working conditions, controlling dangerous and toxic factors, ensuring standards and regimes on occupational safety and hygiene, proactively and effectively preventing occupational accidents and diseases. The system of warehouse facilities, stations, factories, enterprises and technical facilities has been gradually invested and consolidated.

In recent years, the network of occupational safety and hygiene officers has been organized in the basic units of the General Department with a staff of 1,837 people, operating in a disciplined and highly effective manner. In 2024, the units organized training on occupational safety and hygiene and fire prevention and control according to the hierarchy for nearly 19,000 workers; issued safety cards to more than 8,300 people working in jobs with strict requirements on occupational safety; and organized inspections of 1,228 machines and equipment. The units regularly ensure adequate personal protective equipment for workers and strengthen inspections of occupational safety and hygiene, prevention and control of occupational diseases.
In order to have a basis for assessing the working environment and implementing measures to improve working conditions for workers, the General Department of Personnel and Technology directed units to coordinate with the Military Institute of Preventive Medicine (Military Medical Department) to develop a plan for monitoring the working environment. In 2024, 38 units were sampled for monitoring the working environment with 12,374 samples. Through monitoring the working environment and periodic health check-ups, occupational disease detection for workers has promptly detected and treated occupational diseases.
To continue to do a good job in ensuring occupational safety and health, the General Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs has identified one of the important measures as strengtheningeducation and propaganda to raise awareness and compliance with the law on occupational safety and health, fire prevention and control, and occupational disease prevention; proactively preventing and limiting occupational accidents and diseases; improving working conditions.
