Many local people are still shocked and scared by the terrible flash flood that swept down in the dark night. According to the elders in the village, this was the first time they saw a large flash flood in the area, fortunately the lives of the villagers were still safe. Standing at the location where the house was swept away by the flood, around the fish pond, crops were buried and destroyed, Mr. Ha Van Thuong in Long Thang village sadly said: "Last night, it rained heavily for a long time, when my wife and I were in the house, we suddenly heard loud explosions coming from upstream of Pung stream. Judging that a flash flood was coming, my wife and I quickly ran outside, to a higher place and shouted to let everyone around know. Fortunately, other households also moved in time so there were no casualties."

Representatives of Hanh Dich Border Post (Nghe An Provincial Border Guard) presented gifts to encourage the affected families.

The flash flood area is about 18km from the center of Hanh Dich commune, where many households live, raise livestock and produce. When realizing the prolonged heavy rain, the Military Command of Hanh Dich commune and Hanh Dich Border Guard Station (Nghe An Provincial Border Guard) coordinated with local authorities to propagate and mobilize people to evacuate from vulnerable areas.

Comrade Lo Van Quy, Commander of the Military Command of Hanh Dich Commune, said: "In the face of heavy rain and the risk of flash floods, on the night of May 28, the Military Command of the Commune and other forces divided into small groups to go to each household living along Pung stream to mobilize people to evacuate and support the elderly and children to quickly move to safe areas." Thanks to the timely intervention of local and on-site forces, people proactively responded, preventing loss of life. In the following days, the militia and Border Guard continued to stick to the area with functional units to help people clear rocks, trees, rebuild houses, search for property buried by floods, and at the same time support people to restore damaged crop areas."

On the morning of May 29, Hanh Dich Border Guard Station urgently mobilized 20 officers and soldiers to the scene to coordinate with local authorities to visit, encourage and help affected households. Officers and soldiers together with local people cleaned up mud and soil, rebuilt temporary huts, moved belongings, and checked the safety of the flash flood area. In the immediate future, the unit allocated funds to support instant noodles, rice and drinking water for affected households, especially households whose houses were completely swept away. At the same time, coordinate with the commune authorities and functional forces to conduct damage statistics; develop a plan to support people to overcome the consequences and stabilize their lives.

According to a quick report from the People's Committee of Hanh Dich commune, the flash flood collapsed and swept away 3 temporary houses, buried 10.7 hectares of rice, 2.1 hectares of crops, 0.8 hectares of acacia and cinnamon; destroyed 0.9 hectares of fish ponds and swept away hundreds of livestock and poultry; damaged many properties such as rice threshers, plows, milling machines, mobile phones and motorbikes... Lieutenant Colonel Bach Trong Son, Head of Hanh Dich Border Guard Station said: "Understanding the terrain and climate characteristics in the border area, when realizing the unusual weather and prolonged heavy rain, the unit commander organized forces to stay in the area to deploy response work, ensuring the safety of people's lives and property. After the flash flood passed, representatives of the unit command came to encourage and visit the affected households, and at the same time organized forces to work with the people to overcome the consequences".

On the same day, the People's Committee of Que Phong district also set up a working group led by Mr. Bui Van Hien, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of the district, to go to the flash flood area to grasp the situation and propose long-term solutions to stabilize the lives of the people. Currently, relief and recovery work is being urgently deployed. Local forces continue to closely monitor the area, support people in cleaning up, reinforcing temporary structures and restoring production, contributing to helping people soon stabilize their lives after the natural disaster.
