Amid financial markets, Asian shares fell on Friday, while the dollar also fell. This came after an appeals court upheld President Donald Trump’s tariffs, shortly after another court ruled that Trump had overstepped his authority.
Japan's Nikkei fell 1.7 percent as the yen strengthened, reducing the value of overseas earnings. In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng fell 1.4 percent, and China's blue chip index also fell 0.3 percent.
Trump administration officials said they were unaffected by the legal decisions and expected to prevail on appeal. But the uncertainty could delay investment and hiring decisions.
The safe-haven gold price was little changed at $3,311 an ounce, after rising 0.8% in the previous session. Meanwhile, Brent crude and West Texas Intermediate crude prices fell slightly, to $63.97 and $60.75 per barrel, respectively.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding the lawsuits, the Trump administration continues to negotiate with top trading partners. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced he will meet with a Japanese delegation later today in Washington.
News, gold price trends today May 30, 2025 domestic and world gold prices
Gold prices in the world market recorded a slight recovery today, although investors' risk-on sentiment is high. This is reflected in the US stock market hitting a three-month high in last night's trading session. However, demand for gold as a safe haven asset remains limited.
Gold for August delivery is currently trading at $3,325.90 an ounce, up $3.50 from its previous high. Silver prices also saw gains, with July delivery currently trading at $33.475 an ounce, up $0.315.
One important factor that markets are paying attention to is a ruling from the U.S. Court of International Trade, which struck down tariffs imposed by former President Donald Trump in April 2025. The policy was to impose a 10% tax on most goods imported into the U.S., and higher tariffs on countries with large trade surpluses. The court said that Trump exceeded his authority by imposing the tariffs without congressional approval. The Trump administration has appealed the decision.
Meanwhile, Asian and European stock markets have seen mixed movements. However, US stock indexes are expected to open with strong gains in New York today, indicating that market sentiment is quite positive.
The minutes of the recent Federal Reserve meeting contained few surprises, but they did indicate that the Fed is not ready to cut interest rates anytime soon. This also reflected concerns about the risk of stagflation, which is a situation where economic growth slows but inflation remains high.
In the outside market, the USD index increased slightly today, while Nymex crude oil futures also inched up to around $62/barrel. The yield on 10-year US Treasury bonds is currently at 4.55%.
Investors are keeping an eye on the US PCE core inflation index, a key indicator that the Fed tracks to assess the outlook for monetary policy and its impact on gold prices. Citi has just raised its short-term gold price forecast, expecting the precious metal to trade between $3,100 and $3,500 an ounce over the next three months, a significant increase from its previous forecast.
Former President Trump recently threatened to impose a 50% tariff on all imports from Europe, though he later backed off, raising concerns about an escalating trade war.
Citi analysts say gold could struggle in late 2025 and into 2026 as the economy recovers and the Fed begins to cut interest rates. However, Nitesh Shah, head of commodities research at WisdomTree, believes it is only a matter of time before gold finds support and sets new records. He predicts gold could reach $3,610 an ounce by the first quarter of 2026, and could even hit $4,000 an ounce if factors such as trade tensions and global economic uncertainty persist.
With these developments, the gold price today, May 30, 2025, on the world market is showing positive signals, promising to bring many opportunities for investors in the near future.
