This is the oldest patient ever to have a hip replacement at the hospital, marking an important milestone in the local capacity to treat orthopedic injuries for the elderly.
Mrs. NTĐ., born in 1920, residing in Dien Tho commune (Dien Ban town), was taken to the hospital by her family in severe pain, unable to move her left leg after falling.
Imaging results determined that he had a fracture of the left femoral neck - a serious injury common in the elderly, which can cause many dangerous complications if not treated properly and promptly.
Given the patient's serious illness and advanced age, doctors conducted an interdisciplinary consultation, including orthopedics, cardiology, respiratory medicine, anesthesia and resuscitation, to comprehensively assess physical condition, cardiopulmonary function and risk factors.
After careful consideration, the team of doctors from the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology in collaboration with the Department of Anesthesia and Resuscitation decided to perform partial hip replacement surgery.
The surgery was performed within 30 minutes, with careful preparation and strict adherence to sterile procedures and special care for elderly patients.

Thanks to the smooth coordination between the departments, the surgery was safe and successful. Just two days after surgery, the old lady was able to sit up in bed and start doing light exercises under the guidance of the rehabilitation doctor.
The success of the surgery not only demonstrates the expertise and solid skills of the medical team at Quang Nam Regional General Hospital, but also demonstrates the spirit of continuous efforts to improve the quality of treatment, especially for special groups of patients such as the elderly and people with complex underlying diseases.
The patient was discharged from Quang Nam Regional General Hospital yesterday, May 30.

Mr. Nguyen Tai - Director of Quang Nam Regional General Hospital said that falls in daily activities are the main cause of bone fractures in the elderly. Therefore, it is necessary to prevent falls as well as support raising awareness in the community about elderly care. This is considered one of the fundamental solutions to reduce serious trauma complications in the population with increasing life expectancy.
