Da Nang Hospital implements Satellite Hospital Plan

Da Nang Hospital has just organized the implementation of the Da Nang Hospital Satellite Hospital Plan in 2023. Attending were Dr. Vo Xuan Phuc, Deputy Head of the Medical Affairs Department of the City Health Department; representatives of the Department of Organization and Personnel and the Department of Planning and Finance of the City Health Department; leaders of satellite units; Board of Directors of Da Nang Hospital; leaders of departments in charge of training and technology transfer of Da Nang Hospital and 26 students of satellite hospitals participating in the training program.

After 3 years of implementing the Satellite Hospital Project Phase I (2019-2021), Da Nang Hospital has organized 19 training courses with 122 participants, performed 254 technical transfer cases for satellite hospitals (including 6 district health centers) and has formed a network of satellite hospitals in the city. Thanks to that, the professional qualifications of medical staff at satellite hospitals have been improved and have mastered the transfer techniques, contributing to significantly reducing the number of patients transferred to Da Nang Hospital.

Following the success of Phase I. In 2023, the People's Committee of Da Nang City continued to approve the implementation of the Satellite Hospital Plan for the period 2023-2025 (Phase II) expanding to 8 units (including 07 District Health Centers and 01 Nam Lien Chieu General Hospital). Accordingly, practical training courses will be conducted at Da Nang Hospital and technology transfer will be carried out at 8 satellite hospitals.

There are 14 techniques transferred such as: Basic digestive endoscopy; flexible bronchoscopy; basic artificial kidney; basic and advanced emergency resuscitation; surgery for thyroid diseases; maxillofacial trauma surgery; anesthesia, resuscitation and post-operative care.

The training subjects are doctors currently working at district and county medical centers, conducting practical training and technical transfer packages in the form of "hands-on training" with the number of transferred cases from 5-30 cases/technician.

Dr. Le Duc Nhan, Director of Da Nang Hospital, said that the Satellite Hospital Project was approved by the City People's Committee and implemented through stages, in which Da Nang Hospital and the Maternity and Children's Hospital are the two key units in receiving training and transferring medical techniques. The purpose of the Satellite Hospital Project is to help lower-level medical facilities improve their techniques, move towards mastering and receiving and treating patients, helping to reduce the burden on upper-level facilities, especially in the context of facilities and medical equipment at lower-level facilities being constantly invested and supplemented.

In phase II, Da Nang Hospital will deploy to satellite hospitals some training contents and technical transfer such as: basic digestive endoscopy, flexible bronchoscopy, basic artificial kidney, basic and advanced emergency resuscitation, surgery for thyroid diseases (goiter, Basedow goiter), maxillofacial trauma surgery, endoscopic sinus surgery, basic endoscopic urinary system surgery, laser lithotripsy, endoscopic digestive surgery, Longo surgery, basic and advanced bone fusion surgery, splint removal surgery, bone fusion devices, anesthesia, resuscitation and post-operative care.

Da Nang Hospital and satellite hospitals will coordinate well in training and technology transfer to further improve the medical examination and treatment capacity of satellite hospitals, contributing to reducing overload for Da Nang Hospital and people will enjoy good medical services, high expertise right in their own locality; contributing to reducing treatment costs, disease burden, creating trust and peace of mind for patients.
