At the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs this afternoon, October 5, in response to a question about the information that Vietnam and the US are negotiating an arms sale deal, in which the US plans to sell a batch of F-16 aircraft to Vietnam and could achieve this next year, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said:
"We do not have any information about this yet. However, the recent Joint Statement on upgrading Vietnam-US relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for peace , cooperation and sustainable development has set out a major direction for cooperation in the next 10 years and beyond, with 10 pillars covering all areas on a bilateral and global scale."
According to the Joint Statement issued by the leaders of Vietnam and the United States during President Joe Biden's visit to Vietnam, the two leaders welcomed the enhancement of cooperation to promote defense trade and defense industry, in accordance with each side's conditions, through cooperation mechanisms agreed upon by both sides. The United States pledged to continue supporting Vietnam in improving its defense self-reliance, in accordance with Vietnam's needs and established mechanisms.
