This morning, December 29, in Hanoi , the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) held a conference to review the work of 2023 and deploy tasks for 2024 in a combination of direct and online formats to 63 provinces and centrally-run cities.

In his opening speech, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung said: The national digital transformation program has gone through 4 years. 2023 is the year of digital data and when the conditions are met, national digital transformation must be associated with the central task of developing the country's socio-economic development. The digital economy is an important driving force for economic growth, helping to increase GDP and labor productivity.

2024 will be the year of popularizing digital infrastructure, popularizing the fundamental elements of digital transformation, developing digital applications to develop the digital economy, creating new momentum for economic growth and labor productivity. Vietnam's digital infrastructure must be prioritized for investment, modernization and being one step ahead to promote national digital transformation, develop the digital economy and digital society. 2024 will also be the year of strongly implementing AI applications as virtual assistants...

Institutional development and improvement continues to be prioritized. Postal activities continue to have a strong shift with the explosion of e-commerce, contributing to the promotion of the digital economy. Despite being a developing country with a low average income, Vietnam has 4G coverage of 99.8%.

5G testing has been carried out in 59 provinces and cities; 99.8% of the population is covered by 4G. The ratio of smartphone users to total mobile phone users continues to increase to 84.4% (higher than the world average of 63%). Fiber optic coverage to each household is nearly 80% compared to the world average of about 60%.

The digital technology industry has made great strides. Cyber security continues to be a bright spot as people are basically protected in cyberspace. The press and media continue to affirm their important role in honestly reflecting the mainstream of Vietnamese society...

Implementing the tasks of 2024, the Ministry of Information and Communications continues to strive to successfully carry out the political tasks assigned by the Party and the State. The orientation of 2024 will be the year the information and communications industry carries out key tasks under the theme "Universalizing digital infrastructure and innovating digital applications to develop the digital economy - a new driving force for economic growth and labor productivity".

At the conference, delegates focused on discussing the following contents: digital transformation in tourism development, in the construction industry, the judiciary, perfecting the institution for developing the information and communications industry; digital transformation work in some localities...

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang acknowledged and commended the results of the information and communications industry in 2023.

It is recommended that in the coming time, the information and communications industry should continue to identify digital transformation as both a goal and a driving force; maximize investment capital from the budget, resources, and support from organizations and enterprises in carrying out digital transformation tasks.

At the same time, step up the construction and improvement of institutions to promote press development in the new situation; pay more attention to the fields of publishing, printing and distribution and effectively carry out the coordination, sharing and support between central ministries, branches and localities in performing the tasks of the information and communication sector.

On this occasion, the Ministry of Information and Communications commended and honored 15 collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements contributing to the development of the information and communications sector in 2023.
