Ministry of Construction gives opinions on investment proposal to expand Phu Quoc airport by IPP Group, Sun Group

On June 1, 2025, the Government issued Resolution No. 01/2025/NQ-CP on investment in expanding Phu Quoc International Airport.

Accordingly, the Government agreed to invest in expanding Phu Quoc International Airport to serve the APEC 2027 Conference in the form of business investment stipulated in the Investment Law; at the same time, assigned the People's Committee of Kien Giang province to select domestic investors to implement the Project and delegated the authority to the People's Committee of Kien Giang province to approve the investment policy.

According to IPP Group's proposal, this enterprise will invest in and develop Passenger Terminal T2, Phu Quoc International Airport with an initial capacity of 6 million passengers/year and is designed to expand the capacity to 8 million passengers/year in the next phase.

At the same time,Sun Group Corporation proposed to invest in expanding the passenger terminal to accommodate 18-20 million passengers, the cargo terminal with an expected capacity of 50,000 tons per year; the VIP terminal with an area of 6,000 m2; upgrading the existing runway (runway 1) to 3,500 x 45 m, and a synchronously connected taxiway and parking system.

Currently, Phu Quoc International Airport is a level 4E airport, including a passenger terminal with a capacity of 4 million passengers/year, a runway measuring 3,000 m x 45 m, meeting the needs of large aircraft. The airport has 14 aircraft parking positions, a cargo terminal with a capacity of 14,500 tons/year.

To serve APEC 2027, the airport needs to have more VIP guest houses and 16 more aircraft parking positions to meet the overnight parking needs of special aircraft.
