According to information from the Ministry of Ethnic Minorities and Religion on June 9th, a total of 21 out of 63 localities nationwide no longer have temporary or dilapidated houses.

As of June 7, 2025, the whole country had supported the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses for 205,115 households (of which 147,261 were inaugurated and 57,854 were under construction or incomplete).

Specifically, housing support for people with meritorious services to the revolution includes 28,014 houses (18,680 completed and 9,334 under construction); housing support under the two National Target Programs includes 51,529 houses (44,755 completed and 6,774 under construction); and housing support under the Program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses includes 125,572 houses (83,826 completed and 41,746 under construction).

Notably, in the past week, An Giang province has also completed the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses.

Following the central government's guidelines and regulations, the province reviewed the situation, and the Provincial Steering Committee issued a Decision approving the housing support needs of 3,156 households in the province, including 2,672 new houses and 484 houses for renovation. During the implementation process, 3,135 households remained, a reduction of 21 households compared to the approved number.

Mr. Tran Minh Nhut, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of An Giang province, said that to achieve the above results, An Giang province has seriously and fully implemented the directives of the Prime Minister in the implementation of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses, such as: establishing and strengthening the Steering Committee at all levels; implementing typical house models suitable for the locality including 8 models; and directing agencies, units and districts, towns and cities to thoroughly understand the viewpoint and urgently implement the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses.

According to Mr. Tran Minh Nhut, in the implementation of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses, localities mobilize charitable house-building teams to support the construction of houses, reducing costs for households and building more solid homes. Localities also mobilize religious organizations, relatives, and clans to provide additional financial support, labor, and construction materials.

In implementing the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, An Giang province has intensified its propaganda efforts through diverse and varied methods to spread awareness and encourage everyone to participate; it has also promoted communication, persuasion, and explanation to help people understand their eligibility. After receiving support to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, households continue to strive to improve their lives.

Recently, the People's Committee of Mu Cang Chai district, Yen Bai province, also held a conference to announce the completion of the project to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses by 2025. This was the first conference in Yen Bai province to announce the completion of the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses, held in the mountainous district of Mu Cang Chai - which has the highest number of houses needing assistance in the province.

A commendable effort is that, in addition to state funding, localities in Mu Cang Chai district have mobilized additional resources, labor, materials, land, etc., from families, clans, and the local community to support families in building houses.

For households facing extreme difficulties and unable to build their own homes, the district has mobilized social organizations and the community to directly build houses for the people; effectively integrating and utilizing resources from national target programs and social contributions.

The Steering Committee for the Elimination of Temporary and Dilapidated Houses in Mu Cang Chai District has assigned officials to directly assess the current state of housing and family circumstances, thereby developing solutions to assign agencies, units, and organizations to "sponsor" and provide human and material resources to these families.

After carefully reviewing each situation, to save costs and proactively secure labor, the District Steering Committee assigned various organizations to "sponsor" and support the families; appealing to the spirit of "mutual support" among the people, and flexibly utilizing existing house designs for households to choose from for construction.

Thanks to this, to date, Mu Cang Chai district has completed and put into use 771 out of 771 houses, achieving 100% of the 2025 target; including 622 newly built houses and 149 renovated houses.
