Porcelain crowns for 1 million – Cheap or a “trick”?

Just because of the desire for cheap porcelain crowns, many customers have fallen into the situation of "losing money and getting sick", leading to bad breath, pain, and prolonged sensitivity, affecting eating, drinking, daily activities and life.

With just a few clicks on social networks like Facebook, we can easily come across a series of advertisements such as "Porcelain crowns for only 1 million VND", "Porcelain crowns with lifetime warranty". Such attractive prices make many people believe that they can own a new, bright smile for only the cost of a dress or a pair of shoes. However, behind those "sweet" advertisements are many heartbreaking stories, when the desire for cheapness has to pay the price with health.

The real price of "1 million porcelain teeth"

Ms. NMT ( Hanoi ) spent nearly 20 million VND to cover 20 porcelain teeth at a small cosmetic dental facility, after seeing the advertisement "only 1 million/tooth". The first month everything seemed fine: teeth were bright white, even and beautiful, helping her feel more confident. However, by the third month, her teeth started to hurt when eating and drinking, her gums were red and swollen and had a very unpleasant odor.

“When I heard from friends that porcelain teeth could improve yellow teeth, and the price was cheap at only 1 million, I decided to do it right away. But then I started to experience symptoms such as pain and sensitivity when eating, especially hot or cold foods. When I returned to the facility to ask, I was told it was due to my constitution,” Ms. T. recounted.

Because she was so worried, Ms. T. went to the hospital for a check-up and was told that her real tooth had been ground down too deeply, and the porcelain crown did not fit tightly, allowing food and bacteria to get stuck and cause infection. The doctor said that the entire tooth would have to be removed for root canal treatment and then start over.

Like Ms. T., Ms. HN ( Ninh Binh ) went through extremely tiring days after getting cheap porcelain crowns. By chance, she learned that a dental clinic was offering porcelain crowns for only 1 million VND, so Ms. N. agreed to do it. But only a few months later, the shiny white teeth she dreamed of began to have many problems such as bad breath and tooth sensitivity. She regularly went for check-ups but still could not completely cure it.

The story of Ms. T and Ms. HN is not uncommon. On forums, many people share similar experiences such as: porcelain teeth peeling, discoloration, prolonged pain, bad breath, even losing real teeth after only a few months of use. All stem from the wrong choice of cheap porcelain crowns, unknown origin and unqualified doctors.

Consequences customers may encounter when using cheap porcelain crowns on the market

“Price matrix” and the trend of beautifying smiles with porcelain crowns

Porcelain crowns are a cosmetic dental restoration technique that helps improve defects such as discolored, chipped, spaced, or uneven teeth. When performed correctly, porcelain crowns can last 10-15 years, providing a natural smile and stable chewing ability.

However, in recent years, along with the trend of "changing smiles - changing appearance", porcelain tooth covering service has become a booming trend. Many establishments take advantage of customers' psychology of wanting cheap things and lack of knowledge to advertise super cheap porcelain tooth covering, prices ranging from a few hundred thousand to a few million. That boom has created a "matrix" of prices, making it increasingly difficult for customers to distinguish between reasonable prices and truly quality services.

Experts warn: "Cheap porcelain crowns, high risk"

According to Dr. Tran Xuan Dang of Viet Phap International Dental Clinic, cheap porcelain teeth often pose many risks. “Cheap porcelain teeth are often made from recycled alloys, plastic coatings or poor quality metal-based porcelain, which can easily crack, break and cause irritation. High-quality porcelain teeth must be manufactured using 3D CAD/CAM technology, ensuring micrometer accuracy and the materials must have a biosafety certificate,” the doctor said.

Dr. Dang also emphasized that excessive tooth grinding – which is common in unprofessional facilities – can damage the pulp, causing prolonged pain and even requiring complete root canal treatment. “We have received many cases where customers had to remove all cheap porcelain teeth and start over. The cost of repair is sometimes many times higher than doing it right the first time,” Dr. Dang said.

A standard porcelain crown requires three factors: a highly specialized doctor, modern technology and genuine materials. Before the procedure, the customer needs to have a general examination, take X-rays, and determine the health of the teeth and gums. The tooth grinding process should be limited to a safe level, preserving the maximum amount of real tooth tissue.

At reputable dental clinics such as Viet Phap International Dental Clinic, porcelain teeth are made from high-quality materials, have high durability and biocompatibility, do not cause allergies, discoloration or gum irritation. Customers are also clearly advised about the origin, warranty and periodic check-ups after porcelain crowns. These are factors that cheap porcelain crowns facilities often ignore.

The cost of porcelain crowns at reputable facilities today ranges from 2.3 to 15 million VND/tooth, depending on the type of material. This price reflects the difference in technology, craftsmanship and product quality – factors that determine the safety and durability of a smile.

According to Dr. Tran Xuan Dang, porcelain crowns are not only a cosmetic service but also a medical treatment. A wrong decision can cost you years to fix the consequences. Before choosing porcelain crowns, customers need to carefully research the dental facility, request an examination, X-ray and direct consultation with the doctor. In particular, it is necessary to avoid addresses that advertise prices that are too low, unclear about the origin of materials or warranty.

Teeth are a part of the body, not easily replaced. Don’t let 1 million VND become the price you have to pay for a lifetime smile. A beautiful smile needs to be built with knowledge, technique and dedication, it cannot be “bought quickly” with just a few cheap advertisements.
