Pumping biological cement saves 100-year-old woman from paralysis

(DN) - After slipping and falling, the 100-year-old woman could not walk or turn around due to a fracture, collapse and bone marrow edema in the L1 vertebral body. In addition, Mr. K. also suffered from many chronic diseases such as: high blood pressure, ischemic heart disease, dyslipidemia, reflux and gastritis.

Specialist Doctor Nguyen Thanh Ha, Department of Neurosurgery shared: After consultation, the doctors decided to perform the technique of injecting biological cement into the vertebral body of Mr. K. This is a minimally invasive, safe and especially effective method in treating vertebral collapse due to osteoporosis, even in elderly patients. As a result, after only 4 hours, Mr. K. was able to walk again.

According to Dr. Ha, spinal fractures in the elderly make it impossible for patients to walk, causing dangerous diseases such as pneumonia, urinary tract infections, myocardial infarction, cerebral infarction, etc. Therefore, biological cement injection technique helps to quickly relieve pain, restore spinal structure and mobility, thereby significantly improving the quality of life for patients, especially the elderly.
