VHO - Surprisingly winning set 1, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team let the world's third-ranked team Poland come from behind to win 3-1 in the opening match of Group G of the 2025 Women's Volleyball World Championship.

Accordingly, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team are in group B with Indonesia, Myanmar and Malaysia; group A includes Thailand (host, defending champion), Philippines and Singapore.

Meanwhile, the men's event has 8 participating teams. Group A includes Thailand (host), Vietnam, Singapore and Laos; Group B includes Indonesia (reigning champion), Cambodia, Philippines and Myanmar.

The teams compete in a round robin in each group, with the top two teams advancing to the semi-finals.

This year, the target for both the Vietnamese men's and women's teams is to reach the finals.

At the 32nd SEA Games in 2023 in Cambodia, the Vietnamese women's team performed impressively, reaching the final but losing 1-3 to Thailand, winning the silver medal.

Meanwhile, the men's team won the bronze medal after a 3-1 victory over Thailand in the third-place match.
