The special oil painting Portrait of My Mother depicts Nguyen Thi Lan, mother of artist Nam Son, sitting majestically on a chair. She wears a traditional Buddhist hat and scarf and a robe. Around her neck is a string of rosary beads, on her chest is a "Chaste and virtuous" gold medal given by King Bao Dai in 1927 (under the reign of Regent Ton That Han), on her knee she holds a sutra.

In general, there are no bright colors, everything appears reserved, moderate, and solemn. The yellow-earth background, with many shades, gives us the impression that it is an old, ancient painting with time.

It is known that in the painting of his mother's shirt, artist Nam Son was painted with many different shades of blue, on the same color scheme, clearly showing oil paint, Western method, influenced by the artist's two teachers, Victor Tardieu and Jean-Pierre Laurens, but the composition of the painting is completely Eastern, in the style of worship paintings.

The representative of the painter Nam Son's family added: "After being exhibited at the 1931 Paris Colonial Exhibition, Portrait of My Mother participated in the exhibition at the Salon of the French Artists Association in 1932, displayed in Hall XXV at the Grand Palace, classified under the "Painting" category, under the number 1804 in the archives of the French Artists Association, printed in the Salon 1932 catalogue, page 90, and illustrated on page 86".

Nguyen Nam Son's work at the 1932 Salon exhibition was mentioned in many newspapers. The Comoedia newspaper, on March 4, 1932, published a photo of My Mother's Portrait on the front page, with an article by Yvanhoé Rambosson praising: "I do not hesitate to declare that Nam Son is an artist of undoubted value. The portrait of his mother in ceremonial dress has a precise color and a noble expressive power."

According to researcher Ngo Kim Khoi - granddaughter of painter Nam Son (1890-1973): "It all happened in a flash, starting with a price of 150,000 Euros. Following the price of 10,000 Euros, it jumped to 200,000 Euros, in less than 30 seconds. Hesitating and hesitating at this price for a long time, it seemed like an eternity, but in fact, just over a minute later, no one offered a higher price... "Adjugé!" along with the sound of the hammer hitting the ground, leaving a dry echo...".

Commenting on the auction of the painting Portrait of My Mother , researcher Ngo Kim Khoi said: "There are a few issues that need to be mentioned: Before the auction, the online channel jumped back and forth, many people could not enter the online auction. They complained that when they could enter, the auction had already been completed. Some reported that they had high stakes and many professional bidders could not enter because they reported debt to this side... Auctioning a painting is an unpredictable "fate".
