Building a comprehensive STEM ecosystem

In recent years, Thai Nguyen High School for the Gifted has become a bright spot in implementing STEM education in Thai Nguyen province. With innovative thinking and a systematic approach, the school has gradually built a modern learning environment, where students are inspired to be creative and have access to advanced technology during the learning process.

The school has organized many intensive training programs to improve STEM teaching capacity, opening up opportunities to access modern Robotics for both teachers and students. Here, teachers are instructed on how to use Leanbot programming equipment and software, and at the same time, they share experiences in organizing Robotics clubs, a model that is becoming a trend in advanced schools.

One of the important milestones was the school signing a contract to transfer STEM education solutions with a technology unit, according to which 60 Leanbot Robots were donated and put into teaching. Teachers were thoroughly trained in C++ programming, while students participated in IoT-AI connection lessons, helping to equip them with skills suitable for the new era's human resource requirements.

STEM training classes, technical innovation, programming and 3D printing are continuously deployed, creating a vibrant academic atmosphere. In particular, the “STEM Festival” with the theme “Connecting intelligence, reaching the future” has attracted a large number of students to participate, becoming a forum to display creative ideas, models and scientific products.

Not only stopping at experiential activities, the school also promotes scientific research with increasing scale and quality. The 2024-2025 school year recorded more than 60 projects winning school-level prizes, including many projects integrating AI - STEM to solve practical problems. As a result, 10/10 projects participating at the provincial level won prizes; in particular, 2 projects reached national achievements. This is a clear demonstration of the scientific thinking capacity and persistent creative spirit of Thai Nguyen Specialized students.

To support students’ long-term development, the school has invested in building a modern “STEM Education Room”, a space for interdisciplinary experimentation, research and creation. Here, STEM clubs are organized for in-depth activities, helping students turn ideas into products and contributing to the formation of solid technical and technological thinking.

STEM permeates every subject

Not only implementing at the model level, Thai Nguyen High School for the Gifted incorporates STEM into each lecture and each subject, creating a strong change in teaching and learning methods. This is a unique feature that helps the school maintain its pioneering position in general education innovation.

In response to the World Day of Creativity and Innovation, professional groups organized a series of activities to apply AI and innovate teaching methods. Teachers shared models of using artificial intelligence, personalized learning platforms, flipped classrooms, or project-based learning. These initiatives not only innovate lectures but also help students proactively approach knowledge and become more interested in learning.

Many typical lessons became the highlight of that creativity. In the History lesson on “Vietnam and the East Sea”, students interacted with AI virtual assistants, explored the digital exhibition “Truong Sa Xanh” using VR-AR, and experienced Flipbook, all creating a lively and humane learning journey. Images of the lives of soldiers on remote islands ignited in students national pride and a sense of responsibility to protect the sovereignty of the sea and islands.

In the same spirit, the Geography 12 specialized lesson brought students into a digital space, where they designed their own "Digital Museum of Vietnam's Sea and Island Sovereignty". Using AI tools, CoSpaces Edu and ArtSteps platforms, students built 3D models of Truong Sa - Hoang Sa, interactive maps, and simulated images of naval soldiers. The products not only demonstrated technological capabilities but also contained the deep patriotism of the young generation.

Similarly, the Physics unit brought STEM closer to reality. Through PhET simulations, Flipbooks, and generator model building activities, students experienced the process of scientific discovery in a visual way. From small windmills or hydroelectric power generation models, they felt that Physics is no longer a dry formula but a tool to explain and improve the world.

Such lessons show that STEM is not just about technology, it is also an educational method that develops comprehensive capacity, nurtures creative thinking, fosters love of homeland and civic responsibility.

Meritorious Teacher Tran Van Hung, Party Secretary and Principal of the School, emphasized: STEM education develops students' capacity and qualities through practical experience, research and creativity activities; fosters scientific thinking, problem-solving skills, teamwork and application of interdisciplinary knowledge; creates a positive and modern learning environment, promotes innovation in teaching methods; encourages creativity and passion for scientific research, while discovering and nurturing students with outstanding abilities, contributing to building high-quality human resources.
