BYD Sealion 06 - Mid-range electric SUV like Hyundai, only 560 million VND

It's hard not to notice the similarities between the new BYD Sealion 06 2025 and the Genesis GV60 despite the oceanic price gap between them.

In the sea of ​​new models unveiled at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show last week, it was easy to miss a few standouts given the rapid pace of their introductions. However, as the news storm subsided, a few interesting names began to emerge, including the new BYD Sealion 06 2025 .

Sealion 06 belongs to the Ocean line of the BYD brand. Although the name is similar, this model is not related to the BYD Sealion 6 currently sold in Vietnam. This car line was first revealed on the website of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China in early April 2025.

The car comes in both plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and pure electric versions with no difference in design. The reason why the electric BYD Sealion 06 attracts attention is because this model has an appearance as if it just stepped out of the design studio of the luxury brand Genesis of the Hyundai group.

This can be clearly seen through the front of the car with the split LED headlights and no grille. This model looks very similar to the upgraded Genesis GV60. However, the BYD Sealion 06 does not follow the sleek SUV-Coupe design of the Genesis model. Instead, the car is designed in the traditional SUV style, creating a more majestic and practical feeling.

In addition, this SUV also has a few other notable design details such as the glass that wraps around the entire body of the car and the taillights that connect on both sides, continuing the design language of its brother BYD Seal. More notably, the rear taillight design is also reminiscent of Bentley. It seems that BYD designers are eyeing the luxury car world.

Inside the cockpit, the BYD Sealion 06 has an interior design that is familiar to anyone who has seen new Chinese electric cars. Here, the car is equipped with a 15.6-inch infotainment screen located in the middle of the dashboard.

The difference is the floating center console, with faux metal buttons that look quite similar to the Genesis style. As expected from BYD, the Sealion 06 also comes with the God's Eye advanced driving assistance technology package developed by BYD.

Underneath the body is BYD's latest e-Platform 3.0 Evo chassis. Customers can choose between a pure electric version or a plug-in hybrid (DM-i). The pure electric version uses a rear-wheel drive (RWD) system with 1 electric motor or an all-wheel drive (AWD) system with 2 electric motors. The maximum power of the 2 electric motors is 241 horsepower and 228 horsepower.

Meanwhile, the DM-i version combines a 95 horsepower electric motor with a 1.5L gasoline engine with a maximum capacity of 100 horsepower. The total capacity of this version is 217 horsepower. As the name suggests, the BYD Sealion 06 is positioned lower than the Sealion 07, although the size difference between the two models is not much. Specifically, the Sealion 06 has dimensions of length x width x height of 4,810 x 1,920 x 1,675 mm and a wheelbase of 2,820 mm.

Compared to BYD Sealion 6 in Vietnam, the car is 35 mm longer, 30 mm wider, 5 mm taller and has a 55 mm longer wheelbase. At the same time, compared to competitors such as Tesla Model Y or Genesis GV60, BYD Sealion 06 has a larger overall size and a body shape that is more suitable for family use.

The price of the BYD Sealion 06 2025 in the Chinese market has not yet been announced. The car is expected to cost from 160,000 - 200,000 yuan (equivalent to 560 - 700 million VND). BYD's Ocean product line currently includes the Seagull, Dolphin, Seal, Sealion and Song Plus models, covering market segments from small sedans to large SUVs.

In the future, BYD plans to standardize naming with all sedans carrying the “Seal” name and all SUVs carrying the “Sealion” name. BYD will develop a comprehensive product matrix, from small to large cars, within these two naming categories.
