TPO - After reading the book "If you do something, you will make mistakes" by author Noburu Koyama, Le Thi Thu Hong understood that on the road to success, there is no place for those who are shy, timid, fearful, discouraged before doing anything, or give up before trying anything. In fact, you have to do something to fail, and you have to fail before you succeed.

This morning, September 12, Hanoi University of Science and Technology held a closing ceremony and awarded prizes for the Reading Culture Ambassador contest launched on Vietnam Book Day (April 21).

The Organizing Committee received nearly 200 entries.

In his opening speech, Associate Professor Dr. Huynh Dang Chinh, Vice President of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, affirmed that the Reading Culture Ambassador Contest 2024 is a meaningful event for students nationwide, with the aim of encouraging sharing and spreading the love of reading to form reading habits and skills for the young generation, thereby arousing passion, promoting the reading movement, developing reading culture in the community, improving the ability to access information, knowledge, creativity, and arousing the desire to contribute and develop the country.

Participating in the contest, contestants can choose 1 of 2 topics to demonstrate their abilities. At the same time, contestants also introduce good and useful books by domestic and foreign authors, these books have inspired people to lead a positive and socially responsible lifestyle, arousing the will and aspiration to contribute, build and develop the country.

For topic 2: Candidates have proposed initiatives and experiences to promote reading among people in border areas, islands, areas with difficult socio-economic conditions, ethnic minorities, the visually impaired, etc.

After a serious marking period, the jury unanimously selected 1 first prize, 2 second prizes, 3 third prizes and 4 consolation prizes.

Student Le Thi Thu Hong, Accounting class 02 - K68, School of Economics, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, won first prize at the contest with a presentation about her favorite book.

Hong said that in the first days of university, she was like a "pond fish" going out to the "big sea", away from her parents' arms to start a life completely different from 18 years ago. Like many other first-year students, Hong was excited and expectant, but also confused, afraid and had some initial stumbles in life. Her inherent self-confidence was gradually buried by failures. Finally, when she could not control her own pace of life, Hong's mind was dominated by negative thoughts. That was the situation when Hong encountered the book "If you do something, you will make mistakes".

After reading this, I realized that on the road to success, there is no place for those who are timid, timid, fearful, discouraged before even trying, or give up before even trying. In fact, you have to try to fail, and you have to fail to succeed.

I myself have learned that each person will have a different goal in life, purpose in life and a different ladder of success. Therefore, I do not need to go faster than anyone else, I just need to keep going, steadily, without giving up.

As if I had "renewed" myself after reading the book, I overcame my fears and self-consciousness to embrace a new life, ready to enjoy student life, and live the brilliant days of my 18s and 20s.

"If you make a mistake, correct it. If you stumble, try again. The important thing is that you never stop moving forward," Hong said.

In today’s digital age, people are easily drawn into social media and entertainment applications. However, Hong believes that “Books are the eternal light of human intelligence”.

But reality shows that not everyone has the opportunity to access and enjoy reading. Special groups such as people in border and island areas; people in areas with difficult socio-economic conditions; ethnic minorities; the elderly; people with print disabilities, etc. are cases where it is difficult to access many good books and reading culture is difficult to spread there. On the contrary, a group of people who have the opportunity do not yet realize the value of reading.

"I hope that each of us, especially young people, will spend more time reading books. Let's spread the reading culture together because this is not just an individual's job," Hong shared.
