Ca Mau: Tornado causes severe damage to 22 houses

A tornado swept through Ninh Thanh Loi commune, Ca Mau province in a split second, causing 22 houses to collapse and severely damage their roofs.

On July 28, Mr. Le Hoang Phi, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ninh Thanh Loi Commune, Ca Mau Province, said that at 5:00 a.m. the same day, a tornado occurred in the area of Xeo Dung and Nha Lau 2 hamlets, collapsing and blowing off the roofs of 22 houses and some outbuildings. Five houses collapsed completely, 17 houses had 50% of their roofs blown off. Initial damage was estimated at over 500 million VND.

Immediately after the tornado occurred, the leaders of Ninh Thanh Loi Commune People's Committee promptly arrived to mobilize local forces to quickly help people overcome the consequences, re-roof houses, roofs and other damaged structures to help households stabilize the situation.

In the immediate future, the People's Committee of Ca Mau province has directed to support households whose houses collapsed with 5 million VND; households whose houses had their roofs blown off will be supported with 3 million VND. The local government also reviewed and helped people repair and rebuild their houses, and soon stabilize their lives.

According to initial information, at the time of the thunderstorm there was moderate rain, then suddenly a strong tornado appeared and swept through for only about 1 minute.
