Handbook to improve behavioral skills in the family

Việt NamViệt Nam02/10/2023

The set of criteria for family conduct (the set of criteria) issued by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on January 28, 2022 has been deployed and replicated throughout the population. Currently, many families and clans in Thai Nguyen attach importance to and remind each other to apply and improve family conduct skills, contributing to bringing into life the standards of ethical values and culture of Vietnamese people in the period of industrialization, modernization and international integration.

Mr. and Mrs. Mung Viet Hoa - Nguyen Thi Hong in group 4, Tan Thinh ward, Thai Nguyen city.
Mr. and Mrs. Mung Viet Hoa - Nguyen Thi Hong (in group 4, Tan Thinh ward, Thai Nguyen city) shared about the contents of the Code of Conduct in the family.

According to Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism , Deputy Head of the Provincial Steering Committee for Family Affairs: Before deploying the set of criteria to the entire population, the Steering Committee deployed and piloted it in some hamlets in Nam Hoa commune (Dong Hy), some residential groups in Mo Che ward (Song Cong city). The set of criteria was highly appreciated by the people and they agreed to support, accept and apply it to family behavior.

The set of criteria includes the following main contents: General behavioral criteria; Behavioral criteria of husband and wife; Behavioral criteria of parents with children, grandparents with grandchildren; Behavioral criteria of children with parents, grandchildren with grandparents; Behavioral criteria of brothers and sisters.

In order for the content of the Criteria to spread widely and enter the lives of each family and clan, authorities at all levels, hamlets and residential groups have flexibly disseminated it on the occasion of meetings and gatherings; through the loudspeaker system.

Although it has only been implemented since March 2023, most of the contents in the Criteria have become familiar in many households; becoming a valuable handbook, correcting and reminding each person to raise awareness in "Interpersonal relations". Simply put, it is a behavior in a family with order and hierarchy.

In real life, not everyone and not every family is completely happy. The old saying: “Even dishes can sometimes collide”; or “Rice boils slowly”… still holds true today. Because in daily life, a small problem can start with family members arguing. If the person involved does not handle the situation skillfully, it will push small things to the peak of tension, even fights and clashes leading to murder.

Mr. Le Quang Huong, Tan Tien hamlet, Dan Tien commune (Vo Nhai), shared: "One patience is worth nine good things". The set of criteria helps my wife and I, when angry, each person knows how to control our own ego, not argue about right and wrong when angry.

Everyone knows that “If husband and wife are in harmony, they can drain the East Sea”. But each person has their own “habits” of behavior. There is a folk saying “If you are the best, I am second/ If anyone is better than me, I am fourth”… which reminds us that there is no point in winning or losing in life. This is a profound advice from the ancients, and at the same time, it is a way to teach people about skillful behavior in everyday life.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong, Group 4, Tan Thinh Ward (Thai Nguyen City), said with satisfaction: My family has 4 generations living together in harmony. But for my family, the Criteria Set is still like an important handbook, helping members improve their behavioral skills, creating a stronger bond.

Mr. Nghiem Van Tan, Co 1 hamlet, Phan Me commune (Phu Luong), shared: The content of the Criteria is very close to life, so just listening to it once is enough to grasp it, each person feels that their behavioral skills in the family have improved. Children and grandchildren are more respectful to their grandparents. Grandparents also have more intimate words and gestures with their children and grandchildren.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Tam, Phu Thinh residential group, Hung Son town (Dai Tu), said: A happy and cultured family is because the husband and wife clearly know their roles, agree on raising children, and support each other to succeed in life. Simply put, “when the husband is angry, the wife should say less”, and the food in the house is always delicious…

In recent years, the Provincial Steering Committee for Family Affairs has carried out many practical activities, through which the movement to build a cultural family has increasingly developed. The set of criteria deployed throughout the province is one of the typical activities, applied by the majority of people, contributing to raising awareness, guiding family members to behave in a cultural manner, building a standard lifestyle, and limiting moral degradation.
