Technology transfer: 'Leverage' for sustainable agriculture

From "taking experience as a teacher", many farmers now know how to use new varieties, organic fertilizers, artificial pollination for fruit trees... Every step, no matter how small, is accompanied by agricultural extension and technology transfer programs. And it is these silent changes that are creating a modern, valuable and more sustainable agriculture every day.

In the early days of summer, on the hillside of Mo Ga hamlet, Phu Thuong commune (Vo Nhai), Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoan is busy with her lush custard apple garden. Each custard apple flower is carefully pollinated artificially, a task that she previously left to nature. Not only that, she also uses organic fertilizers, biological products and keeps a production diary on a digital platform.

These new steps continue the success of the organic custard apple model that the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center coordinated with the Department of Science and Technology to support households before. Thanks to persistently following technical instructions, the yield and quality of custard apples of Ms. Hoan's family have been improving. Last year, on average, each custard apple tree produced 10-15kg of fruit per crop, and the selling price was also significantly higher.

She said that currently, 40/300 custard apple trees are individually numbered by her to closely monitor the care process. "Every time I go to a training course, I learn many new things. At first, I was not used to it, but now it's become a habit. If you do it carefully, the trees will grow well, the fruit will be beautiful, and buyers will like it more," Ms. Hoan shared.

Not only in Phu Thuong, in Tan Cuong commune ( Thai Nguyen city), the organic tea model according to TCVN 11041 standard is being implemented with the participation of 11 households. Households are supported with fertilizers, materials and technical training. Thanks to that, input costs are reduced while tea quality is increased, aiming at higher-end markets.

Ms. Tong Thi Kim Thoa, Director of Kim Thoa Tea Cooperative, Phuc Xuan Commune (Thai Nguyen City), said: The cost of making organic tea is higher than usual. But thanks to the State and the Agricultural Extension Center supporting 70%, people only worry about 30%, so they feel more secure in converting. We will expand the entire tea growing area to organic farming.

Binh Minh Cooperative (in Nha Long commune) received 40% funding support from Phu Binh district to build a high-tech vegetable greenhouse.

In 2025, the Thai Nguyen Provincial Agricultural Extension Center will deploy 8 key models, focusing on tea, fruit trees, organic rice, cattle and pig farming according to VietGAP standards. All aim at green production, protecting human health and the environment, and increasing the value of agricultural products.

Mr. Ha Trong Tuan, Director of the Agricultural Extension Center, said: We support farmers from the stage of seeds, essential materials to technology transfer. At the same time, we connect production households with enterprises and cooperatives to consume products stably, according to market demand. When people are accompanied like this, they not only access technology but also clearly understand their role and responsibilities in the chain, thereby forming sustainable cooperation, harmonizing benefits and sharing risks.

Accompanying farmers, the Provincial Farmers' Association has actively coordinated with specialized agencies to organize training courses on science and technology transfer, supply fertilizers and plant varieties to popularize new advances in agricultural production.

The transfer contents include: high-quality plant and animal varieties; production processes according to VietGAP and organic standards; production models in net houses and greenhouses; automatic irrigation systems; forest planting techniques and converting large timber forests to grow valuable native trees...

Since the beginning of the year, the Association at all levels has coordinated to organize 496 training courses on science and technology transfer for 31,904 members and farmers. The Association has coordinated with Phu Dien Fertilizer Company to support the construction of 18 models of fertilizer use for tea plants in Dinh Hoa, Dai Tu, Phu Luong districts and Thai Nguyen city; deployed support services for farmers on deferred payment of fertilizer materials...

From muddy hands, farmers now know how to check the weather via phone, record production diaries on digital platforms, choose standard seeds, and cultivate smartly. Each garden and field today is not only the crystallization of sweat and effort but also the result of knowledge, technology, and belief in a green and sustainable agriculture.
