According to the official dispatch signed by Deputy Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen, the Ministry of Health requested the Inter-sectoral Steering Committee on food safety of provinces and centrally-run cities to urgently implement many urgent measures to strengthen food safety, prevent fake food and food poisoning.
Specifically, localities need to promptly issue action plans suitable to local realities, focusing on monitoring food safety risks and preventing poisoning.
In particular, it emphasizes the strict implementation of Directive No. 17/CT-TTg (dated April 13, 2020) on strengthening state management responsibility for food safety and Directive No. 38/CT-TTg (dated January 11, 2024) on food poisoning prevention. In particular, it requires leaders at all levels to take responsibility if violations occur in the area.
The Ministry of Health requires strengthening the inspection and examination of food circulating on the market; focusing on detecting and strictly handling cases of using raw materials of unknown origin, fake products, fake health protection foods or not self-declaring/registering declarations according to regulations.
For key areas such as tourist areas, industrial zones, schools, collective kitchens, street food, food service establishments serving workers, students and tourists, inspection and supervision work must be carried out seriously and regularly. These establishments are also required not to use food or ingredients of poor quality or those that have been warned by the authorities.
One of the important contents mentioned is the inspection and review of trading floors, websites and e-commerce applications that are trading in food. The Ministry of Health requires the detection and handling of products of unknown origin, violating advertising regulations, unpublished products... Violations need to have information removed from online platforms.
Along with that, the Ministry of Health proposed to resolutely handle and suspend the operations of establishments that do not ensure food safety conditions. The handling results and the list of violating establishments must be publicly announced on mass media to promptly warn the community.
Along with inspection and monitoring measures, the Ministry of Health also requires strengthening information and propaganda on food safety laws. Propaganda content needs to guide people on how to choose, process and preserve food properly; focusing on propaganda on traditional foods, suitable to the customs of each region.
People are advised to only use food with clear origin and source, and not to use expired products, damaged packaging, or products showing signs of deterioration. Changing consumer behavior and habits plays an important role in preventing poisoning and ensuring public health.
