On October 23, regarding a number of abandoned hospitals in Binh Duong province (old), the leader of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health said that the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee agreed with the department's proposal on the policy for Pham Ngoc Thach Hospital to set up a second facility at Binh Duong Tuberculosis and Lung Disease Hospital and for the Mental Hospital to set up a fourth facility at Binh Duong Mental Hospital.

These two medical facilities are next to each other, both located in Phu Chanh ward, Tan Uyen city, old Binh Duong province, now Binh Duong ward, Ho Chi Minh City.

Thus, two abandoned or only partially used hospitals in Binh Duong (old) have a chance to be "revived". The Department of Health also proposed that the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee approve the repair, renovation and upgrading of these two medical facilities.

The Department of Health said it has directed hospitals to prepare human resources to be ready to operate after the two facilities are repaired and renovated.

According to Tuoi Tre Online , at two abandoned hospitals awaiting handover in Ho Chi Minh City at the end of October 2025, grass is still growing tall, and many buildings are in disrepair awaiting repair.

Regarding the Binh Duong Psychiatric Hospital (currently completely abandoned), the investment was made and the current status was handed over to Binh Duong General Hospital in 2020. At the time of acceptance, the project showed signs of deterioration so it could not be put into operation immediately.

In 2021, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, this facility was temporarily transferred to serve epidemic prevention work.

After the epidemic, Binh Duong Psychiatric Hospital closed and stopped operating, currently waiting to be used as the 4th facility of Ho Chi Minh City Psychiatric Hospital.

Regarding the Binh Duong Tuberculosis and Lung Disease Hospital (currently partially abandoned), it was handed over to Binh Duong General Hospital in 2019 to be used as a Pediatrics department with a scale of 150 beds.

However, in 2021, when the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, this facility was temporarily converted to serve COVID-19 treatment.

Currently, the Binh Duong Psychiatric Hospital is partly used by Binh Duong General Hospital as an Infectious Diseases Department with a scale of 75 inpatient beds, the remaining part is still severely damaged and cannot be used.

Previously, at the socio -economic press conference on the afternoon of October 9, Mr. Nguyen Hai Nam - acting Chief of Office of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health - informed about the urgent repair of two old specialized hospitals in Binh Duong that are seriously deteriorating.

According to Mr. Nam, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health is actively reviewing, surveying and developing optimal plans to put the Binh Duong Mental Hospital and Tuberculosis and Lung Disease Hospital into operation.

These are two hospitals that were once used to treat COVID-19 patients. They are now seriously degraded, with many items damaged and unable to be put back into operation.

On July 28, after a field survey, the Department of Health held a meeting and assigned Pham Ngoc Thach Hospital and the Mental Hospital to develop a project to soon put the two facilities into operation.

In addition, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health also worked with the Binh Duong Construction Investment Project Management Board and related units to discuss repair and renovation plans.

While waiting for the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council to approve the implementation policy, the Department of Health has proposed that the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee approve the assignment of the Tuberculosis and Lung Disease Hospital as the second facility of Pham Ngoc Thach Hospital and the Mental Health Hospital as the fourth facility of the Mental Hospital.

At the same time, to overcome the degradation and put it into use in time, the Department of Health proposed that the City approve the urgent repair of facilities and technical infrastructure from irregular funds or reserve funds of Ho Chi Minh City.
