In the 81st minute of the match between Qatar and Tajikistan, midfielder Amadoni Kamolov was pulled down by a home player. The number 13 player turned around and kicked Ahmed Al Ganehi in the mouth with the sole of his shoe.

Initially, the referee only showed a yellow card. However, after listening to advice from VAR, he went to the screen to check again. The referee erased the yellow card and showed Kamolov a red card, sending him off the field. This is also the first red card at the 2023 Asian Cup.

After 90 minutes, Qatar won 1-0 thanks to a goal from Akram Aiff. They became the first team to qualify for the round of 16.
