People's Artist Trung Kien (1939-2021) was Vietnam's leading tenor, an exemplary teacher and a great figure in the country's vocal music. He guided many famous singers such as Lan Anh, Dang Duong, Le Anh Dung, and Tan Nhan.
During the introduction of the program to honor him, many generations of teachers and students of the Vietnam National Academy of Music recalled memories of People's Artist Trung Kien.

People's Artist Trung Kien is the leading voice of revolutionary music, a pillar of Vietnamese vocal music.
Meritorious Artist Lan Anh - the person he most favored, considered as his daughter, emotionally said: "I feel lucky to have studied with and been guided by my teacher - People's Artist Trung Kien. He loved and cherished me very much. From the bottom of my heart, I always admired him and appreciated his feelings for me. He was the one who gave me the tools to enter the profession like today.
I remember when I was in school, I was still poor and didn't perform much, sometimes the teacher would give me money. Maybe to him, the amount of money was small, but to me, it was valuable and very big. That is also a memory that I will remember for the rest of my life."
Lan Anh expressed deep gratitude to the teacher who gave her not only vocal knowledge but also faith and determination to pursue art.

Meritorious Artist Lan Anh.
For People's Artist Quang Tho, the late People's Artist Trung Kien is a shining example of seriousness and dedication to the profession. He was impressed by his senior's voice through the song "Love song" by musician Hoang Viet on the Voice of Vietnam radio in the 1960s, and then had the opportunity to meet Trung Kien when he worked at the Vietnam National Opera and Ballet.
In 1973, both attended the World Student Festival in Germany, then toured Europe. In Sweden, People's Artist Trung Kien made a splash when he performed "Song of the Plane Hunter", with the technique of simulating gunfire and anti-aircraft fire, making the audience stand up and applaud.
People's Artist Quoc Hung, Director of the Vietnam National Academy of Music, shared that People's Artist Trung Kien and People's Artist Quang Tho are the two great pillars, keeping the "flame of Vietnamese vocal music" burning for many decades.
The music night “Loi Ca Con Mai” is a tribute program for People’s Artist Trung Kien that was planned for many years ago. However, right before the program was to take place, the project was forced to be put on hold.
"About 8 years ago, when he was still alive, we discussed, wrote the script, assigned singers, set up the stage, and even started practicing the orchestra. Right when we were about to start, he had to go to the hospital for emergency treatment, so we had to postpone it.
Undaunted, the group of lecturers launched the second gratitude project. That time, almost everything was completed, just waiting for the day to organize, but the teacher fell seriously ill. This time, he did not survive. For us, it was a huge loss," said People's Artist Quoc Hung.
That departure left a big void in the hearts of colleagues and students. It took many years, when the pain gradually subsided, for the artists to calm down enough to complete their unfinished wish, organizing a program to pay tribute to People's Artist Trung Kien called Forever Songs at the Grand Concert Hall of the Vietnam National Academy of Music at 8:00 p.m. on November 16, without selling tickets.
The artists participating in the program are generations of excellent students of Professor - People's Artist Trung Kien such as: People's Artist Quoc Hung, Meritorious Artist Dang Duong, Meritorious Artist Lan Anh, Meritorious Artist Tan Nhan, singer Bich Thuy... along with singers Trong Tan, Anh Tho, Le Anh Dung.
People's Artist Trung Kien was born in 1938 in Kien Xuong (Hung Yen), the son of revolutionary Nguyen Danh Doi. He is a great name in Vietnamese music , especially in revolutionary and chamber music, with immortal pieces such as: The Country is Full of Joy, The Train Driver, Love Song, Meeting on the Top of Truong Son, Hello Heroic Ma River, Gifts of the Month and Years for You.
In 1992, he became Deputy Minister of Culture and Information, in charge of the arts sector, and held this position for 10 years before retiring in 2011.
People’s Artist Trung Kien had two marriages. His first wife was singer Thanh Nga, a lecturer at the Hanoi Conservatory of Music – mother of musician Quoc Trung. After her death, he remarried pianist Tran Bach Thu Ha – daughter of artist Thai Thi Lien and sister of artist Dang Thai Son.
In 2021, People's Artist Trung Kien passed away at his home due to old age and poor health, at the age of 82.
