On the evening of November 9, the play "Million Dollar Girl" (script: Vuong Huyen Co, director: Chanh Truc) by Truong Hung Minh Art Stage and Meritorious Artist Minh Nhi completed its review performance, receiving comments and praise from the Arts Council of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City.
Truong Hung Minh Stage has marked an impressive start for a series of works that address ordinary lives but contain many social concerns today.
Mai Ka - From a poor girl to a "millionaire"
The central character of the play is Dieu (played by Mai Ka), a pure-hearted country girl who has suffered a lot since her parents passed away. Living with her older brother (Le Nam) and sister-in-law Nga (Thach Thao), Dieu is constantly rejected and considered a burden.
During the years of exile, Dieu shouldered loneliness and the thirst for life. Then her appearance on the anniversary of her mother's death created turmoil in the house full of childhood memories.

Dieu's life took a different turn when she learned that she was the heiress to a multi-million dollar fortune from a Japanese man. From then on, those who had abandoned her suddenly returned, trying to win her over in every way. And the modern tragedy began: money as a test to reveal human nature.
Minh Nhi – the humanistic support of the play
In the role of an old man who collects corpses along the riverbank, Meritorious Artist Minh Nhi brings a metaphorical image: a man living on the margins of society, poor but compassionate. He is the one who took care of Dieu in her most miserable days, a symbol of goodness in a world full of calculations.
Meritorious Artist Minh Nhi's acting is restrained and delicate in every glance, smile, and vague but humane way of speaking, making the character the "humane soul" of the entire play. His view of the poor girl is not only compassion, but also understanding of the fate of the unfortunate.

Director Chanh Truc's mark - storytelling with the rhythm of urban life
Director Chanh Truc has skillfully created a dramatic rhythm that is both realistic and satirical. By using flexible stage pieces alternating between comedy and tragedy, between calm and climax, he helps the audience go through many emotional ranges. However, with the role of a lawyer, he needs to act seriously, not intentionally being humorous, losing the personality that is required when participating in resolving an inheritance case. Also, the play has many noisy parts, the actors do not know how to control themselves, causing discomfort, and he has also realized this and made adjustments according to the suggestions of the Art Council.
Dieu's story is not simply a personal tragedy, but a reminder of the values that are being lost in the modern money era. Vuong Huyen Co's script, which is rich in drama, is conveyed by Chanh Truc in a simple style, not too tragic or tearful, but leaves the audience to ponder.

The cast is even and emotional "juggling" with Minh Nhi
Besides actress Mai Ka with her sincere performance, there is also actress Thach Thao in the role of the sister-in-law who creates the image of a calculating, cruel but very real woman because she always desires to have children and a better life. The character Nga represents the dark side of greed and selfishness.
The actors: Tan Tre, Le Nam, Di Duong, Bao Bao, Ngoc Cuong, Hoang Meo, Ngo Phuong Trinh, little Yu Mi (granddaughter of Meritorious Artist Kim Tu Long)... contributed to creating both light and dark aspects for the play.
They are everyday pieces of life, funny neighbors, opportunists, ex-lovers… making the story not unfamiliar but very close to today's life.
"Million Dollar Girl", a moral voice amid the whirlwind of pragmatism
The play ends not with tragedy, but with an awakening: money can buy back opportunities, but it cannot buy love. "Million Dollar Girl" is therefore the story of a poor woman whose life changes and a metaphor for the journey to find true human values in a materialistic society.

Actors in the play "Million Dollar Girl"
Actor Le Nam has another good role. He needs to invest more in the character of the second brother who loves his sister but is helpless before his own weakness and laziness, so that in the character's laughter there is still depth, conveying to the audience the feeling of love.
“Million Dollar Girl” promises to be a good sign in today’s theatrical life. The play proves that the stage is still capable of reflecting and leading people back to core values – love, honesty and kindness.
