On the morning of October 8, the Can Tho City Hydrometeorological Station said that the peak tide that morning was measured at 2.13m, exceeding alarm level 3 and higher than the 2.12m level yesterday afternoon.
The high tide peaked as predicted by experts because of heavy rain in the upstream area due to the influence of storm Bualoi combined with tides from the East Sea, which could cause severe flooding in some localities, including Can Tho city.
In Can Tho city, except for the Ninh Kieu wharf area which was flooded, the core areas of the city in the old Ninh Kieu district were protected by a system of sewers and tidal locks so they were quite dry. However, some areas outside this protection area, especially the old Binh Thuy district, were heavily flooded.
In which, Binh Thuy market area located on Bui Huu Nghia street, Binh Thuy district (old) now belongs to Binh Thuy ward is considered the "flood center" of the city because of the very deep flooding level.
There is not only a market but also a school here, so even though people were proactive in advance, they were still heavily affected because in some places the water was up to their waists.

Adults carry children on their backs and have to walk close to the edge of the road to avoid heavy flooding.

Every two months, when the tides rise, people here have their lives disrupted by flooding for several days.
