On the afternoon of September 18, leaders of Can Tho City People's Committee had a working session with a delegation of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on a number of projects being implemented in the city.
Specifically, the project to upgrade and expand National Highway 61C, which is more than 37km long (in the old Hau Giang province), starts at Km10+200 in Nhon Ai commune, and ends at Km47+352 in Hoa Luu commune (Can Tho city). The scale of the upgrade meets the level III standards of the delta with four lanes for motor vehicles and two lanes for non-motorized vehicles, with the implementation period from 2025 to 2030.
The total investment for the project is expected to be about 5,179 billion VND, of which JICA's ODA loan is equivalent to 3,556 billion VND, the rest is local counterpart capital.
Meanwhile, the project to develop the Mekong Delta transport network to adapt to climate change includes component 1 to upgrade and expand National Highway 61C, the section passing through Can Tho city (old) with a scale of 10.2km, meeting the standards of a class III delta road.
Component 2 is the road connecting O Mon district, Thoi Lai district (old Can Tho city) to Giong Rieng district ( An Giang province) with a length of about 25.5km, with a scale of four lanes for motor vehicles and two lanes for rudimentary vehicles.
The total investment capital of the entire project is over VND8,700 billion, of which the ODA loan from JICA is over VND5,700 billion. Similar to the project to upgrade and expand National Highway 61C, this project will also be implemented in the period 2025-2030.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Vuong Quoc Nam - Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee - said that the two above projects, in addition to the goal of completing the road traffic network and inter-provincial roads through the provinces and cities of the Mekong Delta, are also consistent with the traffic planning, the planning of the Mekong Delta region and the planning of Can Tho city.
"This project contributes to completing the transport network, combating climate change, and with a complete transport network, it also helps the city soon become an economic and financial center in regional linkage development, becoming an economic driving force of the Mekong Delta region," said Mr. Nam.
