Beware of selling pressure at high prices

The stock market on March 25 had mixed developments with the VN-Index rising slightly by 0.12% to 1,331.92 points, while the HNX-Index fell by 0.58% to 244.56 points. Despite maintaining its upward momentum, technical signals and cash flow show that the VN-Index is facing short-term correction pressure. Investors should be cautious in the upcoming trading sessions.

Warning signals from indicators

According to BIDV Securities Company (BSC), the VN-Index forming an Inverted Hammer candlestick pattern is a potential reversal signal – combined with trading volume lower than the 20-day average. Notably, the MACD indicator continued to decline after the sell signal, indicating that the uptrend is weakening. If the gap between the MACD and the Signal line widens, the risk of correction will increase.

However, the positive point is that VN-Index is still holding above the important support zone of 1,315 - 1,325 points (peak in early March 2025) and the Middle Bollinger Bands. If this level is maintained, the medium-term outlook remains optimistic.

HNX-Index also recorded selling pressure when the High Wave Candle appeared, reflecting the tug-of-war. The Stochastic Oscillator and MACD indicators simultaneously gave sell signals, predicting the possibility of continued correction.

Cash flow and strategic recommendations

Pressure from foreign cash flow continued to make the market cautious, with net selling value on HOSE reaching VND432 billion and VND20 billion on HNX.

According to Beta Securities, the 1,300-1,320 point range will be a "lifebuoy" if the VN-Index corrects deeply. Investors should avoid chasing high prices and prioritize stocks with solid foundations and reasonable valuations.

The chemical group led the increase, while information technology fell sharply. SHS Securities Company recommends focusing on leading stocks that benefit from macroeconomic growth.

KB Securities Vietnam (KBSV) predicts that VN-Index may challenge the 1,340-point zone but then face the risk of strong fluctuations due to mid-term resistance. Meanwhile, Asean Securities (Aseansc) notes selling pressure in the 1,335-1,340-point zone, recommending investors to restructure their portfolios and reduce the proportion of weak stocks.

Advice for investors

Investors are advised to maintain stock exposure below 70% for short-term positions and avoid using high leverage.

For stocks that are in profit, you should place stop loss or take profit orders in batches.

Factors such as interest rates, liquidity and Q1/2025 corporate reports will impact the trend.

The market is in an accumulation phase with many technical factors leaning towards correction. Investors should stay calm and prioritize stock quality instead of chasing hot growth. The 1,300-1,320 point zone is an important milestone to consider reinvestment in case of a deep correction.
