During his visit, Mr. Trudeau also announced new sanctions against a number of individuals and companies involved in Russia's military activities in Ukraine.
“To date, Canada has imposed sanctions on more than 2,500 entities and individuals, and today we are announcing new sanctions on 24 individuals and 17 entities as part of our efforts to punish Russia and support Ukraine,” the Canadian leader said.
Responding to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's statement, Mr. Oleg Stepanov - Russian Ambassador to Canada - said that the decision to transfer the confiscated Russian aircraft to Ukraine was "illegal" and "an act of theft of property".
According to Russian state news agency TASS , a Russian airline Antonov An-124 Ruslan transport plane arrived in Toronto on February 27, 2022 carrying a shipment of Covid-19 tests from China. The plane, chartered by the Canadian government , arrived in Toronto two hours before the Canadian government closed its airspace to Russia over the conflict in Ukraine.
