Monument commemorating the regrouping to the North

According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Binh Dinh province, after the historic victory of Dien Bien Phu (May 7, 1954), the Vietnamese army and people forced the French colonialists to sit at the negotiating table and sign the Geneva Agreement (July 21, 1954) on suspending the war and restoring peace in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. Our country was temporarily divided into two regions, with the 17th parallel as the boundary. The North was liberated and advanced towards socialism, the South was temporarily governed by the French Union army, and two years later, a general election would be held to unify the country.

Implementing the Geneva Agreement, Binh Dinh was the area with 300 days to gather armed forces and political forces of the entire Inter-zone V to the North and Quy Nhon port was chosen as the only 300-day gathering location in the South.

This was the place where our army and resistance cadres from the South Central and Central Highlands provinces were gathered and transported to the North by ship. From 1954 to 1955, Quy Nhon beach witnessed emotional farewells between those who left and those who stayed. This was also the place where a solemn rally for this event took place.

On May 16, 1955, the last ship carrying cadres and soldiers left Quy Nhon port to the North. The relic was ranked by the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province in Decision No. 845/QD-UBND dated December 24, 2007 with the name: Quy Nhon Port - The point of 300 days of transferring troops to the North.

The historic event of 300 days of regrouping to the North that took place at Quy Nhon port 70 years ago has become a major event in the modern history of Vietnam. This is a major historical event of strategic significance in implementing the wise direction of the Party and Uncle Ho, marking an important turning point in the revolutionary history of the nation.
