Specifically, a 59-year-old female patient, residing in Bai Chay ward, Ha Long city, Quang Ninh province, with a history of high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes, is one of the cases of severe complications - shock due to dengue fever.
Previously at home, the patient showed signs of fatigue, high fever, difficulty breathing, poor appetite, and diarrhea. Through in-depth tests, doctors diagnosed metabolic acidosis and shock due to dengue fever. The patient was given emergency care and treated for dengue fever according to the protocol. After 4 days of intensive treatment at the hospital, the patient was out of shock and his health gradually improved.

Assessing the patient's condition, Dr. Tran Quoc Tuan - Deputy Head of the Department of Tropical Diseases said: "There are 3 levels in the classification of dengue fever: dengue fever - dengue fever with warning signs - severe dengue fever. Specifically, this patient had fever, fatigue, and low blood pressure when admitted to the hospital."
“The Dengue test result was positive, with low platelet count, increased blood concentration, high liver enzymes, and ultrasound showing polymembranous effusion. The symptoms indicate shock due to severe dengue fever, and the patient is at risk of death. Fortunately, after intensive treatment according to the protocol, the patient has escaped critical condition. We will perform tests, x-rays, and ultrasounds to re-evaluate the patient's condition,” said Dr. Tuan.
Accordingly, when infected with dengue fever, patients often have a sudden high fever, continuously for 2 to 7 days, and may have symptoms such as congestion, bleeding at different levels, headache, loss of appetite, nausea, muscle pain, joint pain, pain in both eye sockets, abdominal pain in the liver area, restlessness, and lethargy.

Notably, in dengue fever cases being treated at Bai Chay Hospital, severe complications of shock due to dengue fever have been recorded in young patients with no underlying medical conditions.
According to Dr. Le Duc Vinh - Department of Tropical Diseases, Bai Chay Hospital, patients with shock due to dengue fever will be very tired, mentally disturbed, have impaired consciousness, be lethargic, irritable, have low blood pressure, urinate less, etc. If complications of shock due to dengue fever are not treated promptly, the shock will progress severely, can cause organ failure, and easily lead to death.
For dengue fever, when the patient shows signs of fatigue, lethargy, frequent vomiting, little urination, and severe abdominal pain, they should go to the hospital to see a doctor for examination and treatment advice.
For dengue fever, if not treated promptly, there can be extremely dangerous complications, especially from the 4th to the 7th day after the patient has the first symptoms. At this stage, the patient may go into shock due to blood loss, may have retinal hemorrhage, heart failure, kidney failure, low blood pressure, severe headache, coma and can lead to death.
