The method of the subjects is to call households to inform them that their electricity is about to be cut off because they have not paid their electricity bill. When the people say they have paid their electricity bill, a subject will impersonate a technical staff member to call back to adjust the data on the system.

The subjects then suggested that people access fake links and apps with interfaces similar to EVN's official website. When installing these fake apps, people risk having their entire phone and bank account taken over.

Most recently, on January 5, Ms. D (in Hanoi) received a call from a person impersonating an electricity employee informing her of the electricity bill collection. The person sent Ms. D a QR code and asked her to scan the code to pay the electricity bill. After following the person's instructions, Ms. D lost 500 million VND in her account, so she went to the police to report it.

Hanoi City Police recommends that people be vigilant against the above tricks, do not pay electricity bills to bank accounts or strange links, or personal accounts without verification.

If you have any questions about electricity or related services, you can directly contact the Northern Power Corporation's Customer Care Center at 19006769 (available 24/7) or visit the website of the Northern Power Corporation's Customer Care Center (https://cskh.npc.com.vn).

When encountering cases showing signs of fraud, people need to promptly report to the police to prevent and handle them according to the provisions of law.
