Recently, the Vietnam Coast Guard and the Indian Coast Guard jointly organized a joint exercise on environmental pollution control, search and rescue at sea. The exercise contributed to deepening the friendly cooperation between the two forces in particular and the two countries in general.
Smooth coordination
Before the exercise between Coast Guard Ship 8005, belonging to the Coast Guard Region 3 Command and Sumadra Paheredar - ICG 202, the Indian Coast Guard in the waters off Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, Colonel Nguyen Minh Khanh - Deputy Commander, Chief of Staff of Coast Guard Region 3 Command, thoroughly grasped the tasks for officers, sailors and staff on board. Accordingly, the key factor throughout the joint exercise with the friendly forces is to maintain solidarity, strict discipline, smoothly and flexibly implement the trained procedures and closely coordinate. Colonel Nguyen Minh Khanh emphasized: "The results of this joint exercise not only exchange friendship, learn, and strengthen solidarity between the forces of the two countries, but also leave an image and impression on international friends of the revolutionary, disciplined, elite and modern Vietnam Coast Guard force".

After the whistles from Coast Guard Ship 8005 and Sumadra Paheredar - ICG 202, the commanders of the two forces exchanged and agreed on the training contents via walkie-talkie. The hypothetical situation was that an oil spill occurred in international waters, affecting the ecosystem and environment. The emergency response procedure was immediately activated and all sailors on board were notified to deploy the task of responding to the oil spill. Coast Guard Ship 8005 and Sumadra Paheredar - ICG 202 were mobilized to participate in handling the oil spill. Along with modern specialized equipment on board, officers, sailors of the two forces coordinated and synchronously deployed technical work to handle the oil spill according to a scientific and strict process; organized to isolate, handle, and thoroughly collect the amount of oil spilled into the sea, completing the assigned task.
Colonel Nguyen Minh Khanh - Deputy Commander, Chief of Staff of Coast Guard Region 3 Command: Along with joint training, the activities during the friendly visit of the Indian Coast Guard in Vietnam also have great significance, realizing the memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the two forces signed in 2015. Besides, it continues to affirm the good cooperative relationship between the two forces and the long-standing solidarity and friendship between the two countries' military and people.
The oil spill response mission had just ended when two ships received an SOS signal from a ship on fire at sea. The two ships sped to the scene, approached the ship in distress, and coordinated to spray water cannons to extinguish the fire. After 10 minutes, the fire on the ship was completely extinguished. Next, the ships received information that a victim had fallen into the sea. The commander of Coast Guard Ship 8005 informed the professional teams to get into position; the coordinates of the victim were determined. The sailors immediately arrived at the speedboat launch location. With a modern launch system, within seconds, the speedboat landed on the sea surface, carrying four sailors to the location of the victim to rescue and bring him back to the ship for first aid, ensuring his safety.
Strengthening friendly cooperation
After completing the training mission, Senior Lieutenant Tran Huu Ngoc - Captain of Coast Guard Ship 8005 shared: "This is a practical activity for the two countries' forces to exchange and learn about the ability to handle situations in responding to incidents and performing tasks at sea. Through each training content, we have drawn valuable practical experiences. At the same time, we have identified the advantages and limitations that need to be overcome to successfully carry out the tasks assigned by superiors."
It can be seen that through joint training activities, officers of the two countries have gained more practical experience in ensuring safety, security, and responding to incidents at sea. Thereby, training officers and soldiers to be proactive, creative, capable of action, brave, and improve their organizational and command capacity in performing assigned tasks.
Brigadier General Sudhir Ravindran - Head of the Indian Coast Guard delegation said that the joint training and activities during the friendly visit to Vietnam will contribute to strengthening the friendly and cooperative relationship between the two forces in the coming time. In particular, working together to solve global issues of marine pollution treatment, search and rescue, and ensuring security and safety on the sea route, the core of which is the maritime law enforcement forces of the two countries.
