Providing smartphones to poor households in Bac Kan ward. |
At the age of over 70 and also a disadvantaged household in Bac Kan ward, if she did not have a smartphone, Ms. Minh certainly would not have understood what digital transformation is. In August 2023, Ms. Minh and 24 disadvantaged households in the ward were each given a smartphone...
Ms. Minh excitedly said: The policy of distributing smartphones to poor households has changed people's thinking and awareness of digital transformation. Now, from utilities such as making video calls, posting announcements on public groups to finding information about science and technology, all bring very positive effects in life.
Nghia Ta is one of 8 communes that have been piloted to distribute smartphones. Now, every village meeting or party cell meeting will not have to be announced at home. Through Zalo and Facebook groups, inviting people is easier and faster.
Ms. Ban Thi Vui, a resident of Nghia Ta commune, said that most people are now proficient in using smartphones. Many utilities such as vehicle registration, medical examination and treatment procedures; procedures related to marriage, birth registration, etc. are all performed on digital platforms. She herself has also become proficient in using them; when she needs information and does some procedures, she does not have to go to the commune center like before. In addition, thanks to social networks, many agricultural products of the people are also connected to be consumed conveniently in the market.
Piloted from 2023 in 8 communes and wards in the Northern region, the program aims to support and distribute smartphones to about 4,000 adults.
At the same time, provide guidance and training for people to be proficient in technology and apply digital transformation. According to assessments in many localities, this approach is practical and effectively serves digital transformation, aiming at the goal of digital citizens and digital society.
People of Nghia Ta commune learn about technology applications and digital transformation on smartphones. |
Mr. Phan Dinh Huy, Vice Chairman of Bac Kan Ward People's Committee, said; Through the implementation of smartphone support for disadvantaged households in the ward, up to now, people have used it effectively, installed electronic identification, digital signature, electronic health on their phones; performed administrative procedures on the network environment... digital transformation has made implementation more convenient and effective.
Supporting and distributing smartphones not only helps people in mountainous areas and disadvantaged areas access technology but also contributes to narrowing the digital gap between regions. Initial results in pilot communes and wards show that when people are equipped with appropriate tools and receive dedicated guidance, digital transformation will no longer be too difficult, even in mountainous areas and ethnic minority areas.
