Man Utd fans sing Ronaldo's name in loss to Brighton

VnExpressVnExpress17/09/2023

Thousands of Man Utd fans sang Cristiano Ronaldo's name in unison when their team lost 1-3 to Brighton in round 5 of the Premier League.

After the home team reduced the score to 1-3 in the 73rd minute thanks to substitute Hannibal Mejbri, chants of "Viva Ronaldo" began to be heard in the stands at Old Trafford.

This is the slogan that Man Utd fans used to express their support for the player who played for the club twice in the period 2003-2009 and 2021-2022. The chant then spread strongly and overwhelmed a corner of the stands.

Ronaldo was forced to leave Man Utd to move to Al Nassr in January. Before that, the 38-year-old striker caused a shock when he conducted an interview with MC Piers Morgan. There, he accused Man Utd of betrayal and admitted to disrespecting Erik ten Hag, while revealing secrets related to the club, including stagnation in facilities and operations.

When Ronaldo left, Man Utd showed signs of revival under Ten Hag's leadership. They won the League Cup and entered the top 4 of the Premier League. However, after the first five rounds of this season, the "Red Devils" lost three, to Tottenham, Arsenal and Brighton. The fact that Man Utd fans called Ronaldo's name shows that they no longer support Ten Hag like when the conflict broke out between the two.

On social network X, many Man Utd fans re-shared Ronaldo's goal against Brighton in February 2022 when he dribbled past two players before shooting dangerously to defeat goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.

"Suddenly remembering the situation where Ronaldo single-handedly destroyed the super team Brighton," wrote one fan. Another commented: "Ronaldo showed who is the boss."

MC Piers Morgan also took the opportunity to say: "Witnessing Man Utd's miserable defeat at home to Brighton, does anyone still doubt that Ronaldo was 100% right about the club and Ten Hag? They have gotten worse since Ronaldo left."

Yesterday, Man Utd started the game strongly, creating many chances but wasting them and then being scored by former player Danny Welbeck in the 20th minute. In the second half, they lost two more goals thanks to goals from Pascal Gross and Joao Pedro. Young midfielder Hannibal pulled one back but that was not enough to ease the pain of the home fans.

Many Man Utd fans left after their team conceded the third goal. Before that, many were unhappy because coach Ten Hag took off new signing Rasmus Hojlund to make room for Anthony Martial - who has only scored two goals in his last 15 matches.
