Djokovic's future is always questioned after each tournament exit. But the 38-year-old Serbian has now made it clear he has no plans to retire. He wants to take inspiration from other sports legends who have defied age to compete at the top level, such as Ronaldo (football), LeBron James (basketball) and Tom Brady (football).
Speaking at a conference at the Joy Forum, Djokovic said: "Longevity is one of my biggest motivations. I really want to see how far I can go.
If you look at global sports, Lebron James is still playing very well at 40 years old. It's unbelievable that Cristiano Ronaldo, Tom Brady are still playing even though they are over 40 years old. They are inspiring to me.
In the next few years, tennis is a sport that could change dramatically and I want to be a part of that change.
I want to play as we rejuvenate our sport and establish new foundations that will last for decades to come."
Djokovic (38 years old) has played a total of 1,392 matches throughout his career with 1,159 wins and won 100 ATP titles, including 24 Grand Slam titles.
To date, he has earned more than $190 million in prize money. Djokovic is now trying to surpass Australian Margaret Court for the most Grand Slam singles titles in history.
