Vietnamese chess to compete in 2025 Southeast Asian Championship

VHO - The Vietnamese chess team is in the Philippines to participate in the 2025 Southeast Asian Chess Championship, taking place from November 10 to November 10.

Vietnamese chess sent its strongest team to compete in the sixth time the tournament was held.

Bao Tram is the most experienced and professional player among the Vietnamese female players participating in the tournament.

This year, the Vietnamese chess team has 15 players, including: Tran Tuan Minh, Pham Tran Gia Phuc, Nguyen Duc Hoa, Dang Hoang Son, Nguyen Quoc Hy, Nguyen Van Huy, Dinh Nho Kiet, Duong Vu Anh (male), Nguyen Thi Mai Hung, Bach Ngoc Thuy Duong, Hoang Thi Bao Tram, Nguyen Thi Thanh An, Nguyen Hong Anh, Nguyen Thanh Thuy Tien and Pham Tran Gia Thu (female).

In the men's category, Tuan Minh - the 2025 national champion is expected. Meanwhile, Duc Hoa and Hoang Son are experienced players.

Meanwhile, young talents Gia Phuc, Quoc Hy and Nho Kiet are in good form, promising to create surprises against strong opponents in the region.

In the women's category, international Grandmasters such as Bao Tram, Mai Hung and Thanh An are experienced players, having competed for many years in the national team at international tournaments.

Besides, Thuy Duong, Hong Anh and Gia Thu are talented young players with good performance and achievements in domestic and international youth tournaments recently.

With equal strength in both men's and women's categories, the Vietnamese chess team is expected to compete for high rankings in the tournament.

The 2025 Southeast Asian Chess Championship will feature three main events: Standard Chess, Rapid Chess and Blitz Chess.

The total prize fund of the tournament is up to 28,100 USD, in which the male standard chess champion receives 2,000 USD, and the female champion receives 1,500 USD.

This is an important tournament in the regional competition system, and at the same time a valuable opportunity for Vietnamese players to compete before the 33rd SEA Games.
