In the early morning of April 4, U17 China suffered a 1-2 defeat to U17 Saudi Arabia in the opening match of the 2025 AFC U17 Championship.

Goalkeeper Yi Hesan made two mistakes in the first half, leading to two goals. Wei Xiangxin scored the only goal for China U17.

The young Chinese players fell into an extremely difficult group when they had to face Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia and Thailand.

However, U17 China is still expected a lot by domestic fans. Because just passing the group stage will get a ticket to the U17 World Cup 2027.

However, the defeat on the opening day seemed to make the goal of winning second place in Group A of U17 China no longer have much hope. Therefore, home fans have strongly criticized the young Chinese players. On the NetEase forum, many people commented.

“Who said U17 is better than U20? What kind of football is this?” wrote one angry person. “Looking at the score, it was a narrow defeat. But after watching the game, I know it was a disastrous defeat. If Saudi Arabia had taken better advantage of their chances, they could have scored 3 or 4 goals,” another commented.

“We were pressured throughout the match and conceded a goal from an individual mistake. Really disappointed with our team’s performance,” a Chinese fan complained.

In the next match, U17 China will face a more prestigious opponent, U17 Uzbekistan. And U17 China must win at least 1 point if they want to keep their hopes of winning second place in the group.
