" Actually, in 2017, before launching Bphone, I wrote a profile inviting Vingroup to join in investing," Mr. Nguyen Tu Quang - CEO of BKAV - shared in the program " CafeTALK No. 07: Breaking stereotypes " recently organized by CafeBiz.
2017 was an important milestone for both BKAV and Mr. Quang, ending 2 years of stress to the point of hiding due to criticism from the head of BKAV after the launch of Bphone 1. In the fall of 2017, Mr. Quang appeared before the media again to announce the launch of Bphone 2. At that event, he cried and affirmed that BKAV did not "beg for national spirit". Mr. Quang said that although he wanted Vietnamese people to use Vietnamese products, he absolutely did not force others. By the time of launching Bphone 2, BKAV had spent 500 billion VND, and the investment amount to date has been 1,000 billion, but has not earned a single dong. " Revenue mainly comes from software. As for hardware, we are still in the process of investing, just spending money ", Mr. Quang shared about BKAV's revenue structure at the present time.
Returning to the story of inviting Vingroup to join, Mr. Quang said that the two sides later could not reach an agreement because of differences in the way of doing things. " To do technology, you have to start with technology. At that time, we were really short of money. I spent thousands of billions, but in reality, thousands of billions in this field are very small. You imagine what we do in this field, at least we have billions of USD in hand. Even Xiaomi makes cheap products, but they also have billions of USD, not to mention Samsung or Apple". "But we only have thousands of billions of Vietnamese Dong but have been able to do this, it is the effort of the whole team, of the Vietnamese people. This determination is no longer individual, but the determination to participate in building Vietnam's high-tech industry, then there is enough motivation to do so. It is not just a matter of money ", said the CEO of BKAV . A year later, Vingroup launched 4 phone lines at the same time. By 2021, this giant will completely leave the phone segment to focus on the automotive industry.
