Termination of contract with teacher who used a ruler to hit student's hand

A contract teacher at Anh Hung Nup High School (Gia Lai) was hit multiple times on the hands of a student by a parent with a ruler because the student did the wrong homework. The school said it had terminated the teacher's contract.

According to the feedback sent by many parents to Thanh Nien Newspaper, Ms. PTHB, a contract chemistry teacher at Anh Hung Nup High School (To Tung commune, Gia Lai ), has repeatedly used a ruler to hit students' hands during class when they did the exercises wrong or did not know the lesson.

Specifically, on the morning of November 3, during a chemistry class in class 10A, Ms. B. called a number of students to the board to do an exercise. If any student answered incorrectly or did not meet the requirements, she would use a ruler to hit their hand many times. A clip recording the incident was sent to Thanh Nien Newspaper.

An indignant parent shared: "Our children need to be disciplined when they do wrong in their homework or do not study well, but we cannot have this kind of education where we beat students. Maybe the children are weak in their studies or are not focused, but that is something that requires coordination between the school and the family, not violence. This kind of education is really anti-educational."

Many students said that since the incident happened, they feel scared every time they come to Ms. B's class.

On the afternoon of November 10, speaking with Thanh Nien reporter, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Quan, Principal of Anh Hung Nup High School, confirmed: "Ms. PTHB has just graduated from the university of education. Due to the lack of chemistry teachers in the school, we signed a teaching contract with her from the beginning of the 2025-2026 school year. After receiving feedback about her using a ruler to hit a student's hand, the school held a meeting and decided to terminate the labor contract with Ms. B."

The principal also said that if parents submit a petition to the authorities, the school will coordinate to clarify the teacher's responsibility. At the same time, the school has arranged for another teacher to teach chemistry for grade 10 to ensure that students' learning is not interrupted.
