The Economic Police Department of Da Nang City Police announced that it recently coordinated with Son Tra Ward Police, Forest Rangers, and Forest Protection forces to conduct a large-scale inspection and crackdown operation in the Son Tra peninsula area.

During an inspection in the forest (within the forest area managed by the Da Nang Special Forest Management Board, Son Tra Nature Reserve), authorities discovered and dismantled four illegal hunting traps, including two clamp traps, one cage trap, and one wire trap. These traps have a strong tightening and clamping mechanism, posing a significant risk of serious injury or death to wild animals, especially rare and protected species.
According to a member of the inspection team, illegal trapping activities in Son Tra are quite sophisticated, taking advantage of the dense forest terrain and numerous streams to hunt wild animals or set traps for theft. Therefore, detecting and promptly neutralizing these traps not only prevents violations but also directly protects the habitat of many endemic animal species.
Alongside the crackdown efforts, the coordinating forces are stepping up propaganda and reminding people living around the area to raise their awareness of forest protection, refrain from hunting, possessing, or trading wild animals, and strictly comply with regulations on biodiversity conservation.
The head of the Economic Police Department stated that in the coming period, the unit will continue to coordinate with the Forest Protection and Forest Management forces and local police to organize specialized patrols, expand inspections of forest routes and high-risk areas, and resolutely handle violations.
Son Tra Peninsula – the "green lung" of Da Nang City – covers an area of over 4,400 hectares and boasts a diverse forest ecosystem with more than 1,000 plant species and 531 animal species, many of which are listed in the Vietnam Red Book. Notably, Son Tra is home to a population of brown-footed langurs – a rare primate species known as the "queen of primates," which is under strict conservation.
