On the afternoon of December 16th, the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports held a press conference to announce the activities of the Hanoi Food Culture Festival 2025.

According to Le Thi Anh Mai, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, Hanoi has a diverse culinary scene, combining the cuisine of Thang Long (Hanoi) and the culture of the Doai region. Many folk traditions about Hanoi's cuisine have been recognized as National Intangible Cultural Heritage.

This is not only about honoring heritage values, but also about providing an effective solution to protect, promote, and transform heritage into assets and resources for the sustainable development of the cultural industry.

Currently, Hanoi has 6 culinary heritage items that have been inscribed in the National Intangible Cultural Heritage list, including: Hanoi Pho, Me Tri sticky rice flakes, Quang An lotus tea, Phu Thuong sticky rice, Thanh Tri rice rolls, and Bat Trang traditional feast.

During the opening ceremony of the festival, the city of Hanoi also announced the decision of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to inscribe "The knowledge of processing and enjoying La Vong fish cakes" into the list of national intangible cultural heritage.

The Hanoi Culinary Culture Festival 2025 not only provides a creative cultural space to celebrate the culinary essence of Hanoi, but also serves as a platform for culinary artisans to share their stories and connect with the younger generation.

The festival features a variety of activities with 60 spaces showcasing Hanoi cuisine and regional culinary products, allowing visitors and residents of the capital to enjoy many delicious and unique dishes from Hanoi and other localities, honoring the value of traditional culinary heritage, and affirming the brand "Hanoi Cuisine" associated with elegant and refined identity.

Within the framework of the festival, the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports also organized a thematic seminar program "Exchange to improve the quality of human resources - develop culinary culture" and many activities including performances by artisans, quick competitions among students from various schools in the field of food processing...

At the festival, locals and tourists can also enjoy artistic performances such as: circus, folk singing, street performances, and art blending traditional and modern styles; a photo exhibition with 40-50 works promoting Vietnamese culture, tourism, and cuisine; a mobile book exhibition showcasing 200 books on culture, art, tourism, and cuisine; and demonstrations of culinary heritage such as: making banh chung (traditional Vietnamese rice cakes), cooking Bat Trang pottery, infusing Tay Ho lotus tea, the process of making com (a type of Vietnamese rice flake), cooking Phu Thuong sticky rice, cold snail noodle soup, instructions on making candied fruits and jams, and cooking cheo se (a type of Vietnamese porridge)...

Currently, Hanoi is piloting mechanisms and policies to transform cuisine into a cultural industry. Therefore, the festival aims for a "State-enterprise-community" linkage model, using culinary heritage as a foundation, promoting creativity while preserving it, thereby creating sustainable livelihoods for the community, and making a practical contribution to the socio-economic development of the capital city.

As a partner of Hanoi city in protecting and promoting Hanoi's cuisine in general, and pho heritage in particular, Shimamura Masafumi, Director of Marketing at Acecook Vietnam Joint Stock Company, said that the highlight of this year's festival is the "Thousands of Words of Pride" check-in space, where locals and tourists can share their thoughts and pride for Vietnamese pho. He also expressed his desire to work with Hanoi and Vietnam to spread the value of pho to the world.
