Scoring Vietnamese food

Vietnamese cuisine not only captivates gourmets, but also makes many foreign tourists miss it.

Stefan Kilp - a 27-year-old man from Darmstadt, Germany - has only visited Vietnam once, but cannot help but feel nostalgic when remembering the flavors of the dishes he has enjoyed.

After returning home, Stefan Kilp posted a series of photos of himself enjoying Vietnamese specialties such as banh mi, pho, bun bo Hue , banh xeo, banh cuon, cao lau, mi Quang, bun rieu, bun moc, and even stir-fried frog with lemongrass and turmeric served with vermicelli, with a short caption in Vietnamese: "I miss Vietnamese food."

What makes many people excited is that all the dishes are rated by him with absolute scores, even on a 10-point scale.

Stefan's post made thousands of Vietnamese people proud, and they competed to invite him: "Come back here, I'll pay for all the Vietnamese specialties!". Some comments even jokingly called Stefan "Vietnamese son-in-law", while others offered to sponsor his plane tickets to come back soon.

In a video sharing his love for Vietnamese cuisine, Stefan also made netizens "laugh out loud" with the caption: "I came to Vietnam to enjoy the scenery", but the "scenery" he mentioned here is not terraced fields, mountains or beaches, but... a series of attractive Vietnamese dishes.

Appearing in the clip, Stefan is not afraid to sit in small restaurants, slurping broth or biting into a piece of banh xeo in enjoyment.

Will try the bread or hotpot again

Talking to Dan Tri reporter, Mr. Stefan Kilp said that he had only had the opportunity to set foot in Vietnam once, but he fell in love with this land.

During the journey from April 2 to April 29, Stefan visited many locations ranging from Ha Giang, Ninh Binh, Hanoi to Da Nang and Hoi An.

For him, what left the deepest impression was not only the beautiful natural landscape but also the friendliness of the Vietnamese people and especially the rich cuisine here. He confessed that he still "missed" Vietnamese dishes even though he had been back in the country for more than a week.

When asked about the dishes he tried, Stefan could not hide his excitement: "Actually, I ate a lot and every dish was so delicious that I could not find any fault. I did not hesitate to try any dish, on the contrary, I always ate with curiosity and openness. As a result, every dish surprised and fascinated me."

Stefan admitted that before coming to Vietnam, he had known a little about Vietnamese food through restaurants in Germany, documents and movies. But all those experiences paled in comparison to the feeling of eating in this country.

"Seeing, tasting and feeling it on the spot is a completely different experience, richer, deeper and much more authentic," he confided.

As a health-conscious person, Stefan particularly appreciates the balance in Vietnamese cuisine, saying: "Vietnamese food is very healthy with little fat, lots of vegetables and meat. I really appreciate the way Vietnamese people prepare food in a fresh, light, yet very flavorful way."

In Stefan's eyes, Vietnamese street food is truly "the pinnacle". "Street food in Vietnam is the best thing I have ever experienced. The bustling atmosphere, the food giving off attractive aromas right on the sidewalk, everything is so lively," Stefan said.

Although he couldn't choose the "number 1" dish, Stefan revealed that if he could go back, the first dish he would want to eat would be bread or hot pot.
