Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club is preparing hard for the AFC Women's Champions League semi-final against Wuhan Jiangda in China on May 21.
Amidst the active preparation and strong reinforcement of the Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club, fans received quite sad news when overseas Vietnamese Chelsea Le officially missed the upcoming historic match of Vietnamese women's football.
According to coach Kim Chi's confirmation, Chelsea's problem is not economic but the Vietnamese-American midfielder is having difficulty because he has just finished studying and is in the probationary period so he cannot arrange time to return.
Chelsea Le joined the team in March on a short-term contract, played outstandingly in the quarter-finals against Abu Dhabi Country (comeback 5-4) and contributed two goals to help the team win the 2025 National Cup. The absence of Chelsea will be quite a pity for the midfield of the HCMC Women's Club.
Thus, the representative of Vietnamese women's football will participate in the semi-finals of the Asian Women's Cup C1 with 5 foreign players, namely central defender Aubrey Goodwill, striker Sabrina Cabrera (USA), midfielder Sakura Yoshida (Japan) and Maria Khan (Pakistan), Vietnamese-American player Ashley Tram Anh. Meanwhile, Vietnamese-American female player Nguyen Hoang Nam Mi (Canada) has Vietnamese nationality so she will be considered a domestic player in the tournament.
Besides, the good news for fans is that Nam Mi has been in Vietnam since May 1. However, she took a direct flight to Hanoi to complete passport procedures for her trip to China to attend the Asian Women's Cup C1.
Today, this Vietnamese-origin player was asked by the Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club to practice with the Vietnam Women's Team while waiting to join the team.
It is expected that the HCMC Women's Club will be in Hanoi for the final preparation phase on May 8. During this phase, Coach Kim Chi and her students will have a friendly match with the Vietnam Women's Team on May 12, before going to China on May 18.
