Automatic renewal only for vehicles with registration expiring before July 1, 2024

Vietnam Register   There has been an adjustment in the time of application for vehicles that are automatically extended for inspection cycles. Accordingly, Circular 08/2023/TT-BGTVT amends and supplements a number of articles of Circular No. 16/2021 regulating the extension of the automatic inspection cycle for passenger cars with up to 9 seats not used for transport business.

The automatic registration extension only applies to vehicles inspected before March 22 and is effective until July 1, 2024.

The subjects of application in Circular 08 are vehicles with a production period of up to 7 years and a production period of 13 - 20 years that have been granted a Certificate and Inspection Stamp before March 22, 2023 and are valid until July 1, 2024.

For example, a car with a production period of up to 7 years that has been granted a Certificate and Inspection Stamp valid until June 5, 2023 (with an 18-month inspection cycle according to the old inspection cycle), the validity of the certificate and inspection stamp will be automatically extended until December 5, 2023 (an additional 6 months).

Vehicle owners only need to access the website of the Vietnam Register to print the Certificate of Validity and Inspection Stamp without having to go to the inspection centers.

Notably, this regulation does not apply to vehicles with Inspection Certificates and Inspection Stamps that have expired before the effective date of Circular 08. According to statistics, there will be 155,592 vehicles in this group that will not be automatically extended for inspection.

A representative of the Vietnam Register also said that the application period will not be extended to December 31, 2024 because it is expected that the congestion will be resolved. Due to the adjustment in time, there is currently no official number of vehicles that will have their registration automatically extended.

The Vietnam Register also recommends that the management software system will be updated gradually in order of vehicles due for inspection. Specifically, it is expected that on the first day (June 3), vehicles due for inspection up to about June 10 will be updated.

Instructions for registering for automatic vehicle registration renewal

The steps to perform automatic registration renewal are as follows:

Step 1: visit the website of the Vietnam Register http://www.vr.org.vn/, go to "Check for renewal of inspection", the website will appear: https://giahanxcg.vr.org.vn

However, to avoid overload, the Vietnam Register recommends that vehicle owners go directly to the website at https://giahanxcg.vr.org.vn

Step 2: Enter the following information: registration plate, inspection certificate serial number, verification code then press the "search" key. In case the issued certificate is subject to renewal, the result will be displayed as the following screen:

Vehicle owners click on the link containing the inspection information confirmation to view and print the confirmation for use when participating in traffic.
