According to a quick report from the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention - Search and Rescue and Civil Defense of Nghe An province, up to now, the whole province has recorded 254 landslides and large and small separation points, concentrated on national highways and inter-commune traffic routes.

Many places have suffered heavy landslides, broken roads, and rocks and soil spilling onto the road, making travel almost completely paralyzed. This morning, July 25, National Highway 7 from Khe Thoi to Muong Xen commune still has heavy landslides.

National Highway 16 - the main artery of the highland communes - was washed away by floods and landslides in many sections. The route is over 100km long and plays a particularly important role in transporting goods, providing relief, and connecting traffic in the western region of Nghe An.

In Nhon Mai commune (formerly Tuong Duong district), a representative of the commune People's Committee said: "Heavy rain has caused almost all roads leading to the commune to be buried by rocks and soil, and rescue forces have not been able to reach many remote villages. Overcoming the consequences is expected to take a long time and require a large amount of funding."

As soon as the water receded, the Department of Construction directed the Road Maintenance Management Board to coordinate with relevant units to quickly deploy repair work.

Mr. Hoang Quoc Truong - Director of the Road Maintenance Management Board said: "We have mobilized machinery and equipment to the landslide sites for urgent handling. In Nhon Mai commune, the unit is deploying 7 excavators to level the soil and rocks, making efforts to clear National Highway 16."

Meanwhile, all villages in Muong Tip commune (former Ky Son district) are still completely isolated because the only road leading to the commune was swept away by floodwaters into the river. The construction unit is sending 4 excavators to the scene, trying to clear the route despite difficult terrain and adverse weather conditions.

However, the authorities are still working tirelessly, implementing the construction in shifts 24/7 to speed up the progress.
