Ho Hung is a famous watercolor artist who has won many national and international awards. He is recognized by experts for his talent and dedication to this art form. Painter Ho Hung shares that field trips, sketching, and direct drawing are an indispensable part of his journey to conquer painting.

“For me, drawing is not just about collecting documents and taking notes, but it is a real journey of discovery , helping me understand more about the close connection between nature, culture and people. More specifically, before each trip, I could never imagine the paintings that would be formed, but often depended on immediate discovery,” the artist shared.

The painting "Mother" was painted by the artist with a basket containing fruits and cakes - evoking the familiar image of a mother every time she comes home from the market.

Through the exhibition, he wants to bring to the public a gift to enjoy his paintings so that they can feel and appreciate the beauty of life, nature and the ordinary moments around them that are "gradually drifting into the past".

The artist conveys emotions and perspectives on life through his brush. He rarely paints people, but mainly exploits landscapes and familiar things in daily life. For example, when painting the picture titled “Mother”, he depicts a market basket with fruits and cakes, depicting the familiar image of a mother.

Ho Hung meticulously observes space and weather, choosing a “still” mindset to convey the changes and transformations of each object in his paintings. He believes that only when you are calm and observe carefully can you find beauty in familiar everyday images.

Among the 35 works, the artist is particularly fond of a few paintings. Among them, the painting Sa mua giong contains many emotions from the idea to completion. The artist said that during a business trip to Can Tho , he saw the sky turning to rain, dark clouds, wind blowing, the river flowing, and the boat carrying people still moving forward. Suddenly, he decided to paint this moment because he felt it was like life, no matter what, we must move forward.

Looking at Ho Hung's paintings, many people feel a sense of sadness, emotions before the changes of space and scenery... Each work takes the artist 20-30 minutes, or a few hours to complete.

“I don’t paint the original setting. I often research the culture, history, weather, and ups and downs of the land to create my own unique style,” he said.

The painting exhibition "Small Emotions" takes place from July 28 to August 11, at Nha Lam Art Gallery, Ho Chi Minh City.
