These days, in the fields of Vo Ninh commune ( Quang Ninh ), the atmosphere of summer-autumn crop production is bustling from early morning. People rush to plow the land, others level, drain, build embankments to retain water... to be in time for summer-autumn crop planting.
Ms. Bui Thi Tien, Truc Ly village, Vo Ninh commune said: “This summer-autumn crop, my family has planted more than 4 sao of rice fields. The summer-autumn crop usually falls at the peak of the hot season, so to avoid water loss from the fields, I have leveled the land and reinforced the embankment system more carefully. With this progress, my family will likely finish planting the summer-autumn crop before June 5.”

It is expected that this summer-autumn crop, Quang Ninh district will plant 3,200 hectares of rice. With the motto of harvesting as soon as possible, preparing the land and planting as soon as possible, ensuring a successful summer-autumn crop, the district People's Committee has issued an official dispatch directing localities to accelerate the planting of the summer-autumn crop as soon as possible to avoid the possibility of extreme weather at the end of the crop as well as to avoid the damage caused by migrating rats. The district has directed people to put rice varieties with a short growing period into production, limiting the planting of varieties with a growing period of over 90 days; the main varieties of this summer-autumn crop include: PC6, HN6, KD18, Ha Phat 3, SV181,...
In particular, to ensure irrigation water sources in the summer-autumn crop, the district has also coordinated with irrigation branches to inspect reservoirs, manage water promptly and reasonably for people to sow and care for crops; encourage localities to produce all the areas according to the district's plan, expand the planting area in localities with sufficient irrigation water sources, such as: An Ninh, Van Ninh, Tan Ninh...
In Ba Don town, in the summer-autumn crop of 2025, the district will plant 2,150 hectares of rice; of which, high-quality rice is 1,290 hectares, intensive rice is 860 hectares. This year, most localities have structured short-term rice varieties with high yield, high quality and good weather resistance such as LTH31, QC03, ADI28, PC6, HN6, Huong Binh... Currently, Rao Nan and Quang Trach irrigation branches have proactively opened water early for localities to prepare the land, deploy summer-autumn crop production in time with the crop schedule.

Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment (NN-MT) of Ba Don Town, Nguyen Van Khanh, said: After completing the winter-spring rice harvest, the Town People's Committee focused on directing communes, wards, and related units to coordinate well in preparing for seeds, land preparation, fertilizer supplies, dredging canals, irrigation, pest control, etc. for the 2025 summer-autumn crop production. In particular, the unit also directed communes and wards to develop a plan to combat drought in the summer-autumn crop, a plan to save irrigation water from the beginning of the crop and must have a plan to store water, use water reasonably, ensure irrigation water requirements for crops; strictly comply with regulations on rice varieties, such as: Do not put into production varieties without clear history and origin, varieties not on the list of permitted production of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, varieties that have not been tested and tested in Ba Don Town, etc.
Head of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection Ho Khac Minh said: The planned area for planting summer-autumn rice in 2025 in the whole province is 14,500 hectares, with a yield of 49 quintals/ha and an output of 71,050 tons; the area for regenerating rice is 8,000 hectares, with a yield of 20 quintals/ha and an output of 16,000 tons. Based on the policies and orientations of the province, the Department of Agriculture and Environment has directed localities to grasp the crop calendar for planting summer-autumn rice. The rice planting season starts from May 20 and ends on June 5 to ensure harvest before September 5.
Currently, the whole province has planted 5,575 hectares of summer-autumn rice; of which, Quang Trach 2,800 hectares, Le Thuy 450 hectares, Quang Ninh 350 hectares, Bo Trach 550 hectares, Ba Don town 1,400 hectares...

For the 2025 summer-autumn crop to be a complete success, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has issued a document directing and guiding localities to encourage people to use short-term and extremely short-term rice varieties, such as: PC6, Ha Phat 3, SV181, HN6, DV108... In addition to the main varieties above, depending on specific conditions, localities can use promising varieties, such as: ADI28, Hung Long 555, Tan Uu 98, BT09, HG12, TBR97... with a moderate sowing structure to ensure safety in production. Farmers are advised to use certified rice varieties for sowing to increase productivity and product quality; mobilize and direct producers to promote rice production in areas with guaranteed irrigation water, actively convert rice land areas without guaranteed irrigation water to dry crops with lower water demand, and limit field abandonment.

In addition, the Department also strengthens the direction of the implementation of investigation, detection, prediction, forecast, inspection and supervision of plant pest control. Promote the application of technical advances in production and pest control, such as: Prioritizing biological measures, herbs, and microbiological drugs; implementing integrated plant health management (IPHM), SRI, and climate change adaptation programs... Propagating, disseminating, and guiding people to gradually switch to using organic fertilizers, biological fertilizers, and composting organic fertilizers using agricultural by-products combined with biological products to limit the overuse of chemical fertilizers, increase plant resistance, help improve soil properties, and reduce input costs, ensuring safety for the environment and human health.
