Strategy from infrastructure investment

With its position as the gateway to the sea of the East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC), investment in export-related infrastructure such as logistics, industry, digital infrastructure, etc. not only serves Da Nang but also has strategic significance for the entire Central and Central Highlands regions.

Three pillars of infrastructure

Da Nang's seaport system is playing a key role in the development of the maritime economy and logistics in the Central region, with Lien Chieu deep-water port planned as an international transit port, capable of receiving ships up to 18,000 TEU (a unit of measurement for container and seaport capacity). Meanwhile, Tien Sa port is playing an important role as an international trade hub, while Chu Lai port (Tam Hiep port area) is being expanded and upgraded to receive ships with a total deadweight tonnage of up to 50,000 tons. Ky Ha seaport and Chu Lai airport are being expanded, aiming to become regional logistics and aviation centers.

In addition, logistics centers or warehouses have been invested in the city, such as: U&I Logistics Center with a scale of 316 billion VND, Con Ong Distribution Center with a scale of 100 billion VND in Da Nang High-Tech Park, Transimex Da Nang Center in Hoa Cam Industrial Park... Recently, Viettel Post Joint Stock Corporation (Viettel Post) started the project of Logistics Center in Lien Chieu Industrial Park. The project is built on an area of 8.6 hectares with a total investment of more than 722 billion VND, including 3 warehouse blocks with a total area of nearly 40,000 m2; deployed on a modern technology platform, data and speed are core values.

High-tech industrial infrastructure aims to attract high-quality investment, creating export products with high added value, instead of just raw processing. In particular, Da Nang High-Tech Park is a multi-functional national high-tech park, attracting projects and creating key export products, such as aerospace components (Universal Alloy Corporation Vietnam Co., Ltd., KP Aerospace Vietnam Co., Ltd.), microchips, precision mechanics, new materials...

At the same time, industrial parks such as Hoa Khanh and Lien Chieu are being restructured and upgraded in infrastructure towards smart, green and model transformation to attract supporting and high-tech industries, combining research and development (R&D) centers. Thereby, creating new products and technological solutions, which are the foundation for breakthrough export products.

Digital infrastructure is identified as the “backbone” for operating the digital economy and ensuring the smooth flow of both people and goods. Da Nang, which has advantages in information technology, is making efforts to digitally transform to make administrative procedures more and more convenient: providing high-speed, stable transmission lines for businesses; coordinating with customs agencies to deploy digitalization of customs procedures...

Synchronous investment

The Resolution of the 1st Congress of the Da Nang City Party Committee (term 2025 - 2030) and the task of "Strategic solutions to promote the role of Da Nang in double-digit growth" of the City People's Committee determined: to build Da Nang into a major commercial center with modern and synchronous infrastructure and distribution system; a logistics center, multimodal transport, a center for goods distribution of the Central - Central Highlands region and the whole country. Strive for the logistics cluster to account for about 15% of the city's GRDP (gross domestic product).

Director of the City Department of Industry and Trade Le Thi Kim Phuong said that the industry and trade sector strives for an average increase of 8-9%/year in the export turnover of goods in the period of 2025 - 2030. To carry out the above task, infrastructure development is an important solution. The city's orientation is to develop free trade zones, duty-free zones, industrial parks associated with the airport system (Da Nang International Airport, Chu Lai Airport), seaport system (Lien Chieu, Tien Sa, Ky Ha, Tam Hiep - Tam Hoa); develop Chu Lai port associated with the container logistics center and the logistics center at the Nam Giang International Border Gate Economic Zone, thereby connecting goods in the Central - Southern Laos and Northeast Thailand regions.

In particular, the formation of the Da Nang Free Trade Zone associated with Lien Chieu Port is a "golden" opportunity. The free trade zone creates a superior institutional framework, attracting investment in the fields of high-tech manufacturing, processing, manufacturing and logistics services, thereby creating a source of export goods with high added value, contributing to the double-digit economic growth target that the city has set for the period 2025 - 2030. Lien Chieu Port is an international transit port with a green and smart orientation. By road, the connection from the port to the national transport system is 4km; the direct connection to the national railway system is only 1.5km.

“The city has invested in completing the shared infrastructure system connecting to Lien Chieu port and continues to invest in completing the infrastructure connecting from the port to the functional areas of the Free Trade Zone. Da Nang possesses many favorable conditions to develop warehouses, becoming a transit point for raw materials serving production activities, thereby developing commodity exchanges in the future. This not only facilitates the trade of goods but also contributes to providing resources for major projects in the city and the region in various fields,” said Ms. Phuong.
